People get defensive about the weirdest things. One of my friends takes pole. Which I wish I could take but we don’t have a class up here. Her teacher is a former stripper (nothing wrong with that) but she learned pole by doing. She isn’t aware of the safety aspects or the proper technique for things like splits and stretching into splits so you don’t injure yourself. Because she never learned any of that. So she doesn’t teach any of that. My friend posted a picture in the splits yesterday and I told her it was great she could get down all the way in the cheater splits (when your hips are open)...but that she needs to be squaring her hips while doing it to protect her muscles. She got SUPER defensive. “I’ve worked really hard to get down all the way. Progress is progress”
This isn’t progress. This is an injury waiting to happen because you are over stretching your muscles in an improper position 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️.
Don’t listen to the circus girl whose instructor went to actual circus college (yes this actually exists) to learn how to NOT injure her students.

😞 ive trained with so many people like that. I would definitely want to know if im risking an injury but whatever 🙌♀ I guess doing it right and just doing it are the same.

@kambam, we work on proper technique a lot for aerial. Because you CAN seriously injure yourself. I have an injury right now because I didn’t close my shoulders enough when doing a move. So I strained a muscle in my shoulder. Like it’s impressive to get down all the way. But it won’t be as impressive if you can’t walk anymore for awhile because you pulled the very delicate and rarely used muscles used to do the splits.

Sadly, many have to learn through failure. Until it happens they just dont care 🙄 I'd never train with someone who wasn't properly trained in kinesiology either. Being good at pole isnt enough.

@kambam, she hasn’t taught them about closed and open shoulders either. I have refrained from commenting on her other videos of her doing pole improperly with open shoulders.

Just cringy 😣 I try to get less worked up over it. I say my peace and go. Tired of giving real advice for free 😅 on anything, not just fitness related.

@kambam, whatever 🤷🏼♀️ when she gets hurt I won’t say I told you so.

She may not care now but she will in a few years when she’s got all kinds of hip problems.
