**THIS MIGHT BE A LITTLE TMI** **IM POSTING BECAUSE I NEED ADVICE ABOUT SYMPTOMS** Okay so I’m anemic and I found out when I was in labor 11 days ago, I hemorrhaged lost too much blood and had to get blood through an iv and they put me on iron supplements. So I’ve been taking the supplements 10 days now along with ibuprofen and prenatals and stool softeners that I was also prescribed. About three days ago I started majorly losing my appetite to where I’ve barely been eating and dropped to 9 pounds away from being back at pre pregnancy weight so I lost about 25 pounds I’m at 106 now, and I’m also breastfeeding. and then today I started having really dark almost black stool (still normal consistency as has been the past few days) and from what I’ve read it’s common for iron supplements to cause dark stool but then a few hours ago it suddenly turned to dark/black diarrhea that really really hurts to push out and I started having nausea. I was just wondering if this sounds normal based on all my circumstances or if anyone knows what it could be, it’s just a little alarming the loss of appetite and nausea and black diarrhea all together /:

I would go to the hospital. Black stool normal means internal bleeding. Go to the hospital ASAP

@lexusjenkins99, that’s what I was afraid of 😭 especially because I’m already anemic and I’m taking care of a newborn with no help like this is so inconvenient but I would like to not die lol

I would call and ask a On call nurse, iron usually causes dark stool however with you being sick and no appetite you could have a infection somewhere.

@thomaskassandra84, go just to be safe. Because it may be normal but since you hemorrhaged and needed blood I’d go in so that you don’t have questions and are going with could be’s. So you get a definitive answer and know what’s going on

I second what these ladies said! I hemorrhaged after the doctor was trying to get my placenta out. I was severely anemic and 2 weeks after birth got what I thought was the flu with high fever. Turns out I had retained (stuck) placenta pieces still inside of me because I didn't stop bleeding. Had emergency D&C. Please call your doctor!

Yeah I would talk to my doctor. With iron pills your still does become dark.but if ur feeling nauseated, loss of appetite diarrhea then u need to check to make sure that blood isn’t in your stool. Signs of blood doesn’t always come out as red it shows as dark black in stool. So just be careful and check with your doctor and keep your fluids going until u find out what’s what. I’m a nurse.

How ever i was wondering what your levels were im anemic and my levels between 3-5 and my drs officd is taking soo long to get me my infusion .
I know stool can get to black drom the iron alone but your other symptoms arent in line with how you should be feeling atm hope your able ti get answers asap
