I had ADHD and they put me on every pill imaginable and kept up the dose wouldn't work so put me on another. Until they put me on adderall at highest dose and it finally worked but had me zombified I was in the 3rd grade my mom freaked and took me off of it. I just learned how to use it to my advantage. Work on one thing until can't focus anymore then move on to next and repeat until everything done. And as far as calming find something their interested in to focus on.

My mom is having a hard time with my brother he’s 8 years old. He’s taking pills but so far that’s not working. He sees a psychologist and psychiatrist. He gets really abusive and breaks things around the house whatever he sees he breaks when he’s really mad. On top of that my mom is also pregnant. I’m wanting to get advice from you guys and see if there’s anything I can do to help maybe. It’s so hard for her literally everyday he wants to hit her or throw something at her and yells every cuss word. She also tries to do different things at home for him so he doesn’t get bored and get his mind on something else

It got really bad today that she had to take him to a mental health clinic and they suggested to take hjm to a mental hospital which is 2 and a half hours away. Guess there’s nothing else to do since that’s next thing the doctors are suggesting.

@vanessa81.vr, have you seen if he can qualify for ABA therapy? It’s usually for autism, but I remember hearing something about some including it for ADD. Or if there is a similar program through your county mental health office? Basically it’s in home behavioral therapy- they work on targeting specific behaviors and skills, no medicine involved, but some do both.

I have family members that struggle, please don't be offended by anything I'm about to say this all my observation and things I have been told that work. Obviously, you ultimately know what is best for your situation. Eliminating processed sugar is huge. It's in everything and it's HARD. my older cousins had to do this for their ADHD, so my mom didn't let me have processed sugars until I was 5 and I intend to do the same with my son. Since behavioral disorders run in my family, and by eliminating sugars it just makes it easier for me to keep it a little healthier in general. Next, and only with doctor's permission and under their care, a small black cup of coffee (that is a stimulant that works similarly to the way other ADHD meds work) once they reach school age (where it is necessary to concentrate) is an option. If you have a doctor willing to prescribe very serious medications, but won't let you try a much less strong cup of coffee is a problem for me personally. Not ruling out medication of course, but if there are steps that can be taken beforehand to solve it then great! That way the kiddo never has to rely on medication (hopefully depending on the situation) they just think, I need my morning cup of coffee. That seems like a good tradeoff to me. Not judging any other moms, but it does feel like a lot of moms put their kids on meds because it is a quick fix, 100% understandable having a child with ADHD is not easy, especially with other responsibilities and kids. Very few genuinely need medication (just what I have seen through the years) Do NOT beat yourself up though if you find your child is one of the few. However, eliminating processed sugar was enough for 5 family members. If you would like to know more let me know! Sorry for the book. Hope this helps a little. Remember you are not alone.

@vanessa81.vr Anytime! Believe me no sugar is no joke. If you happen to try that, also google 20 uncommon names for sugar. Its often of of the long ones you see on ingredients lists. Maltodextrin, and corn syrup are some of the big ones.
