How do you know if your toddler has a urinary tract infection? I just got home from work and my baby sitter said he hasn't had that many wet diapers, & he hasn't pooped all day that he would try to take his diaper off, & that it seemed like it would bother him down there, and pat him slef down there. Should I try cranberry juice & a lot of water & see if he gets better?

If he has an infection, his urine should be concentrated and dark colored with a heavy smell. I would encourage him to drink and see if that solves it. UTIs aren’t overly common in boys.

You wont be able to tell without bringing him to the doctor so first thing in the am call his pediatrician. You can check hia genitals for irritation, just clean him up good down there and comfort him for the night until he can be seen.

would it be best if I take him to the hospital right now & get him checked out? I work all day tomorrow & I'm not off till Tuesday. I'm just really worried it could be something else. Ladies? @williamsl.miesha @pookiedoo

Yes take him to the hospital they will take a test to see if he has it & if he does they’ll prescribe meds

I personally wouldn’t, but you need to do what makes you comfortable.

You really don't want to wait take him in if you think he might have one.. If he has it they'll prescribe him Amoxicillin that's what they prescribed my Son when he had it..

I would take him in the morning, going to the hospital will take all night and isn’t the appropriate place to go for something like this. If you have to go tonight, urgent care would be best, but in my opinion it’s best left for morning. Can you give him a little prune juice and see if it helps? Has he been eating okay?
