I’m 31 weeks pregnant, my legs and feet are swelling and I’m starting to get really jittery and nauseated while standing at work, not to mention it’s hard to bend now...when do doctors start to put expecting mothers on leave...I was trying to make it to 35 weeks or so but I just feel terrible

You can always tell your doctor how you're feeling and they can fill in your FMLA paperwork if you qualify. My last term pregnancy, I went to 37 weeks so I could get my FMLA at one year employment. I was miserable though and from 30 weeks I had my doctor write me a note to give to HR that let me take breaks every 30 minutes to elevate my legs due to severe swelling and pitted adema. I also used my short term disability to take time at home after getting severe bronchitis at 32 weeks. Oh I also had my doctor write me a note stating I had to have a stool or chair while at customer service desk with a place to put my feet while seated. I hope my experience helps you be able to discuss your concerns with your doctor! ☺

Yes, thank you. I only have short term disability and I do housekeeping at a hospital so I can sit but even that didn’t work today and the work load just seems to be getting too much. Even just laying down doesn’t help, it’s hard to breathe smh

I understand that completely! I definitely would see about speaking with HR about hour reduction or about taking part of your short term disability to rest a few days. I think it starts on day 8 of being off for pay though. I recommend compression stockings for swelling in the meantime. My doctor said only take them off for showering.
