Thoughts on kids coming to baby shower?
My mom and my husbands mom are planning my shower and my mom asked today how many people are coming from his side and they said 14 adults and 10 kids(10 & under) possibly 3 more. Then they asked about how many kids are coming from our side and she said none (they weren’t specifically invited on the invites we sent out)
Is it “normal” for kids to come to these? My family normally leaves the kids at home for baby or bridal showers. I’m actually kinda annoyed there are going to be so many kids there running around.

At my shower (church did it) they didn't allow anyone under the age of 12 unless it's your own child

I didn't have kids at my baby shower and there were maybe 4 babies but they weren't a problem at all. I went to a baby shower recently and it seemed more like a birthday party. The kids kinda took over and they ate most of the desserts and we're fighting ect. I personally don't think kids should go especially that many... 13 kids? Come on that's way too many. I say you should let them know now that you don't want any kids at the event. The sooner the better so that your guest has time to make other arrangements you're probably going to upset a few people but oh well.

@leximonae1k, I completely agree. I want to enjoy my day. Not have all these little kids running around getting into things. If the extra 3 come. That’s darn near one kid per adult. I don’t feel that young of kids have a place at showers and I doubt they actually want to be there. Of the 14, there are also 5 10-17 year olds too. I don’t mind the older “kids” but my goodness. This isn’t a kids party!

@alicianoelle, thats what my mom and I thought when they told us how many were coming, this isn’t a child’s birthday party. We don’t have activities for them to stay entertained, nor should we have to go out of our way to do so. I told my mom I will leave my own damn shower if they are running around fighting causing problems. I didn’t think I needed to say anything, I didn’t put kids on the invites but I guess I shouldn’t have assumed. My husbands side of the family has a lot of kids. 😏 My mom is also in charge of desserts and she’s having a hard time getting an extra dozen just for kids.

As long as the kids are under control and not acting crazy I wouldn’t mind. I didn’t mind with my first but there weren’t many.

@sara672014 You're right you shouldn't have to say anything especially if you didn't put
"kids welcomed" on the invites. The fact that they're just assuming that you're okay with kids coming is rude if anything I think your husband should have a talk with his mom and let her know because with 10 kids under 10 someone is bound to act out and throw a fit.

I love the kids being there. Why shouldn’t they be a part of the happy celebration of a new little one arriving. I guess it depends on the kids to though. All my friends kids are very sweet and well behaved. I’d probably feel different if they were terrors.
