MOTHER IN LAW 😱
My MIL is going crazy, kinda like a sleep regression but worse. 😫 She is very attached to my son and wants to see him EVERY DAY, sometimes twice, morning and during bath time, which is the worst, since she doesn't want to leave once we're done with his bedtime routine. On the other hand, she is very generous and she tries to ask for permission for certain things, but lately she even refuses to let me hold the baby when he is fussy or tired. I think what bothers me the most is that she can't go a day without seeing him. If I saw her every day but here and there we could have our no-visits days, I would be happy.
Today she had to go to Philadelphia to see a friend and I thought we would have a nice day, just the three of us, but she ended up coming to see him last minute and asking if it was really bedtime. 😖 It makes me very anxious and I really don't feel like seeing her anymore, which is obviously not an option.
Any tips from experienced moms? I'm in despair 😩

Be honest with her tell her how u feel and that u need your space and want your alone time with your son to bond with him.

Does she doubt your ability to be a proper mother or is she just trying to be as helpful as she can?

@ladyblauvelt I don't think she doubts me, it's just she has separation anxiety. My son is the only joy in her life... I get it, but it's not healthy and I feel like I'm being forced to see her every day.

@christina9294 We tried to have that conversation when I was 10 days PP and she started crying because she wanted to see my baby. She's seen him every single day since he was born.

@argiemom29 its not like you're being mean. But you definitely need your space and bonding time. That would drive me nuts.

@argiemom29 well I'd be grateful for the extra help because that it something rare... but if it does bother you a little, maybe talk to her about some days being just for you and your family to spend alone time together. If you don't think you can then have your SO do it.

Agreed - you and your family need your space. She needs to chill out she's start seeing him less. What does your husband think? I'd have already gone crazy.

@ladyblauvelt I'm definitely grateful, but I think she also uses it so that she can spend more time with baby. Which is fine, I know she loves him, but it is more the anxious, crazy attachment that I'm scared and tired of...

@leowifey He's tried to tell her that once baby is sleepy she has to leave our apartment but she gets offended every time. I don't really confront her because I feel that it would only make things worse, but she does need boundaries...

My MIL wanted to come everyday. I told my husband NO. Now we see her when I want.

Girl you need a sex life slash your own life you can’t have his mom there everyday breathing down your neck seeing her even twice a week would be a lot

Create boundaries for her. She doesn't control your life, and your son isn't her child. If she's going to make a fuss, let her fuss. But you and hubs need to stand up to her or she'll be raising your kiddo according to her own wishes and standards.

You need to set boundaries with her and warn her that if she doesn't comply with them that you just won't answer the door. We had to do that with my MIL bc she would just show up unannounced, interrupting naptime, dinner, etc., and our 1 dog did not like her so he would constantly bark at her, which would wake the baby.
Yes, you are very appreciative of her help, but you deserve to have your own little family time. Will your SO speak up and say something or do you have to be the "bad guy"?

I totally understand my grandmother is like this doesn’t give me time to have my own space

Set some boundaries. Sit down with your husband and pick out certain days she can visit that are convenient for you. AND not near bedtime. For example she can come on tues and thurs at 2pm for an hour each time. By keeping the visits short and less frequent, you’ll be less likely to snap on her. Also when she cries or gets angry with you, you know that’s a tactic right? That she’s manipulating you to get her way.
Also - your husband should be the one to tell her the new schedule. Sounds like she might be more willing to listen to him. And if she can’t follow the new set schedule and boundaries, just don’t open the door. Simple.

@argiemom29, my mother in law used to come over to see my daughter every day it drove me crazy! It’s so frustrating and I try to be nice we argued and didn’t talk for awhile and now she’s better but comes over randomly and stays for hours😩

Update? Did you guys talk to her?
Roxy·
@cams I will write a post now, but we did talk and she does not admit to doing anything!
