Breastfeeding is soo tough, baby boy has been cluster feeding every 30 min to every hour since he’s been born to the point where my nipples have chapped 😩 yes a Lactation consultant has been working with me to improve on placement but do mamas have any ointments that do wonder to heal your nipples .. any tips? Never had this problem with my first born she never chapped my nipples.. I want to keep going with breastfeeding but it has become very painful..

The purple one that starts with an L I can't think of the name lol

@kennyshakur, the lanolin cream, the one they give you at the hospital

Put some breastmilk on your nipples after each feed and let them air dry. It works amazingly well.

@nessaness yes that lol it worked well for me but there are many creams and methods

Test coconut oil on baby’s ankle. If no reaction you can use that on your nipples. Works amazing.

Utter butter is great but make sure to wipe nipples before each feeding. They use that brand on cow nipples in the dairy farms. My husband worked on one as a teen. Lanolin is my preference and its safe to nurse with

Coconut oil worked better for me then lanolin

Polysporin complete trumps lanolin or coconut oil for the beginning, it has pain relief and antibiotics to heal your nipples quick and ease the pain. A lactation consultant recommended it to me 11 years ago with my first and I have used it with all my babies works amazing, just use a wipe and wipe off your nipples good before the next feeding. After you get over the beginning and are cruising at breastfeeding I highly recommend putting coconut oil on your nipples at least once or twice a day as it is a natural antibacterial and anti fungal and can prevent and get rid of thrush!

Has baby been checked for lip/tongue tie? If baby has a bad latch, the pain will continue. The revision process is usually pretty quick.

@roaringmamabear, the skin under the tongue is short which cause baby to suck hard or something they had told me but it’ll eventually grow out . & I’ve been taught techniques to work on getting him latched correctly.

@ss3mom, okay glad to know there’s options cause I feel like lanolin isn’t really helping much! But I will definitely look into other things.

I was given the Ameda cooling gel pads when I was in the hospital with my second baby and they were amazing. I used with lanolin and they helped prevent rubbing and promote healing between feedings. I got some for my hospital bag this time too!
