Today is my birthday and I always feel guilty being happy since this date represents tragedy. I was at work and my coworkers were singing to me and eating cake and the radio was on and that’s when we heard what happened. It’s such a bittersweet day for me. Let’s all take a minute to remember all the lives lost and those who risked their lives to save others.

Today is my cousins birthday, too. She turned 16 that year. I was in school, getting school pictures done when we first heard. No one knew how bad it was until kids started getting pulled from school, since teachers were told not to discuss it or watch the news with us. (I had a lot of classmates whose parents worked in Manhattan.)
