So my daughter has older sisters and one of them asked me "when are y'all getting her ears pierced" so I responded that we are not. And she can decided when she is an appropriate age if she wants them. And she looked so upset and disappointed? Like why? It doesn't affect you at all if she has her ears pierced. And her other sister gets sad when we get her the "boy colored" toys instead of pink because she gravitates more towards blue things so we figure she like that color more. I just don't understand and it's kind of annoying me like I'm doing something wrong because I'm not doing what they want for MY child

They’re kids with ideals put in their heads by their environment. Instead of getting angry or annoyed, explain your thoughts and way of thinking and maybe they’ll learn something new.

I think you’re absolutely right to wait and let her choose when she’s older. My parents got my ears done and I hated them pierced. And they were pierced wrong so now I have lumps where my holes should be. My son also has pink and purple toys. Color doesn’t define gender. You’re the parent not them. So they have no say in what you do. You’re doing an amazing job!

@jack.ass their dad doesn't want me "projecting" (his words) onto his daughters so I just don't say anything further about it. It would be cool to give them a different perspective but their dad doesn't want me doing that and they'd just get an attitude so I switch the subject.

@db413 thank you, my mom pierced my ears because I asked
at age 3, I haven't worn earrings since I was 5. So there's that. Also the toy had red in it and my daughter would literally scream when people where red shirts while holding her so that's just another reason I stay away from pink stuff. I just try to do what suits her best

@dankerson, phew. Looks like you dodged a bullet. Try to brush off what they say then and feel bad that they have a poor upbringing with close minded individuals- who the heck wouldn’t want their kids to be open minded and learn new things?!?

@jack.ass yeah, thanks to some of your comments from some months back we just coparent. I do feel bad often because they have so much potential and obviously are craving guidance. He think I'm trying to out-parent him, that I don't know what I'm talking about because I've never raised and children

@dankerson, that’s crazy. If he was a better parent - you couldn’t “outparent” him. Hopefully when they get older they’ll see their own potential. Big of you to still be involved in their life and let them be a part of their sisters life.

@dankerson, my dad made me wait until I was 16 to get my cartilage pierced. That’s the only piercing I have now. He wanted to make sure I’d keep it and felt at 16 I was mature enough to know whether or not I wanted to keep it for life. As you can see I still have somewhat of a hole from my infant piercings but can’t stick anything in them because of the lumps in my lobes. Not to mention she could be allergic to certain earrings and you may not know because she can’t tell you yet that it hurts or itches.

Your child do what you want! My lil girl loves blue n is the same way. They're different it's better that way. Stick your ground with the ear piercing you don't have to do what you choose not too.
