That is up to you. I only have to tell my job technically a bit before my maternity leave but I told them early in case I needed to take extra sick time due to morning sickness.
My job is different as I’m a Realtor and not really “employed” by anyone but I told my office a couple weeks before I officially announced. I think I was about 10 weeks.
I didnt tell my job until the day I gave birth. You can tell them whenever you're comfortable but legally you don't have to tell them at all. With my 1st I announced end of 2nd trimester.
I think each person is different . It depends on where you work and what you do . People usually do say the second trimester . I told my job the middle of second trimester .... Based on my role there are a lot of responsibilities that would need to be handled while I’m out so it was important to get things in place early .
Technically in California you just have to tell them 30 days before you plan on taking your leave. I waited until I was 21 almost 22 weeks pregnant to let my job known and I honestly felt so much better. I let my managers know but told them I wanted to keep it quiet until I was further along which is when I let everyone know at my job.

It’s up to you. I mean I told my job when I found out only cause I worked with food and I worked around chemicals.

@leximonae1k, if you have to do a lot of lifting and need restrictions you may need to tell them earlier
