It depends on why he's being punished. He usually gets two warnings, to cut out wherever he's doing. If he's not listening or acting like a wild brat, like hitting, it's a timeout, 2 minutes since he's two. Most of the time that works, but sometimes he needs a second timeout. Toys will get taken away if he ignores the two warnings of "Don't throw that" or "Don't do that."
Sometimes timeouts and toy removal happen immediately, if it's really bad behavior.
I spank and time outs my daughter screams like a banshee so I put her in her room (door open) and let her scream when shes done shell come out but spanking is for when they're doing something that could really get them hurt
