Sorry in advance for the paragraph 😂😂
So girls I’m 5 weeks and 4 days, I’m a waitress and bar maid and my work is super busy at the moment so I’m constantly stressing which I know isn’t good for me and the baby, I’m so tired and starting to feel sick, Anyone else on here a waitress/barmaid and how did you cope in a busy restaurant/bar while pregnant, I just get so stressed out when it’s busy and we are so short staffed so that doesn’t help much, The chef/boss expect us to carry a big tray with at least 5 plates so we don’t have to keep going back and forth to the kitchen, I’m a petite person so I struggle to carry the trays with all the plates on it, b but I struggle even more as I’m trying not to hurt myself, I just end up straining myself and leaving myself with a sore back, I told them I’m pregnant and they still expect me to carry this big heavy tray! One supervisor said I can carry heavy things until I’m basically about to drop and another said no I shouldn’t be lifting the tray if I’m struggling, especially in first trimester, Just need advice tbh
My boss doesn’t care about anyone but her customers, she doesn’t care about her staff at all! Such a difficult place to work for
Thank you xx
i waitress and when I was working while pregnant I couldn't lift trays so I just used a bar tray to clear tables etc, had to take regular breaks, food was offered too, they gave me a new uniform aswell, they'll have to do a risk assessment with you xx
They are breaking the Health & Safety at work Act. Health & Safety is the responsibility of all and therefore they should not be putting you in this situation as it is not legal. You are also entitled to ask for a Risk Assessment to be completed to say what you are and are not fit to do whilst at work. Go to Citizens Advice and seek support. It is free.
Thanks girls for all your reply’s, Appreciate them all, Your right I need to stop being soft and put my foot down, I just wish she was an understanding boss but she’s not! 💖
@shelleypark2015 stress is no good for you and baby. Just put your foot down hun and I'm here to talk if you need it x
@emilyanderson11111, They sure do! As long as your making there customers happy they don’t care about staff xx
@shaninex97, Yeah she just said I’m only 5 weeks so I’ve just to get on with it 🙄 I’m on my break crying because I’m stressed out with it all! Trying to calm down as I don’t want to be stressing the baby xx
@rosiehadenxo, Thank you! Tonight is the night, I’m going to say no and if they expect me to do it, I’ll say it’s either I stay and don’t lift trays or I walk simple! There horrible folk to work for honestly x
@shelleypark2015 if that's what you need to do hun. You gotta think about you. It's hard working behind a bar as I know myself. Your boss shouldn't be talking to you like that. Yes your only 5 weeks but that is the time to be careful and take it easy x
@shelleypark2015, don’t stand for that chick! that’s terrible, they could get into so so much trouble if you got hurt because it’s not as if you haven’t told them your pregnant, I think some people look at you as if it doesn’t mean anything until your past half way but it’s not true at all, whether your 5 weeks or 35 weeks your still pregnant and carrying your baby! they need to be more considerate and grateful of you, definitely put your foot down chick they can’t treat you like that, at the end of the day your trying to do what’s best for yourself and your baby x
@shaninex97, Yeah there really selfish people to work for, I’m considering given it up but I need the money but there’s bound to be a better job and better bosses that will care x
@shaninex97, Yeah I’m going to do that tonight, If they don’t like it then that’s there problem, I have myself and my baby to think about before them! I told my work thinking they’d understand but clearly not 🙄 x
@shelleypark2015 if your boss doesn't care about you then you seriously need to consider working there especially while pregnant. Don't mean to say that hun but it's not just you anymore x x
@rosiehadenxo, I’ve said no to the kitchen about taken a tray full of food and they just get mad at me, boss doesn’t care and she knows I’m pregnant she keeps telling me to just get on with it as I’m only 5 weeks but first trimester is the time that you need to be careful! I think I need to put my foot down and just say no I’m not carrying the tray of food x
@shelleypark2015 you have to put your foot down hun. You got to think whats best for the baby. It's not just you anymore. Try and grow a back bone and tell them no. That's what I did and now they actually listen to me xx
@shaninex97, The thing is about my boss is she doesn’t care about the staff, she’s one of them bosses where all she cares about is money coming in the door she doesn’t care about the staff at all, she’s seen me struggle and she’s not said anything and I’ve told her I’m pregnant but she’s telling me I can still lift things as I’m only 5 weeks, Then my supervisor told me not to be lifting anything, I’m just to soft and end up taken the tray instead of telling the kitchen no I’m not taken the tray xx
I've always been told to take my time and don't rush. Even tho it was busy I was told that the costumers could wait and I was too not rush. The costumers was moaning but I just told them to shut up( hormonal) and everything. Once all the costumers knew I was pregnant they all understood and let me take my time. They even tell me to sit down and someone else will serve them as I'm now heavily pregnant x
You shouldn’t lift anything heavy tbh hun, it’s not good for you at all and it’s putting unnecessary pain and stress on you, and if anything was to happen to you it would be your works fault because they shouldn’t be having you lift anything.. just see if there is anything else you can stick to doing instead of serving food, you really need to be careful especially until your past the 12 week mark as your body is working and changing so much xx
I am a bar maid hun. I just took it easy. I told my boss when I found out at 4 weeks pregnant. She said that I need to take it easy. She stopped me from carrying heavy items. This wasn't possible tho as I hold a set of keys to open and unlock my work. But always made sure I left the heavy stuff to one of the other staff to help me out. Basically my staff helped me out a lot and they still do. I don't pick up the dishwasher trays or anything ever since I told my boss at 4 weeks..
@nataliielouiseexo, My work won’t do any of that for me, I’m going to speak to them about this assessment tomorrow see what they say xx
