Before you even comment I don’t want any negativity so if that’s you please keep scrolling.!

My daughter is 6 yrs old was homeschooled through K-12 online school.! Well her first grade teacher now that’s she’s in public school mentioned to me about placing her back in kindergarten because she struggles with reading and pronouncing letter sounds. I told her NO WAY.! I’ll work with her extra at home before I just give up and place her back.! Have any of you mommas had this issue and what did u do to help your child catch up.?

This is my standpoint with that she’s not behind in math she know her number she know how to sound out most letters her biggest struggle is reading and if you can’t take a little bit of extra time as a teacher to help one student then why are you at 18 students can hear her telling me that 80% of your students are average or above average you only have about three that are not so why not take the extra time out to focus on those three students

They might be thinking there isn't enough time In the school year to teach her that, and the rest of the things that need to be taught without her falling behind on that. Being held back at such a young age isn't the worst.i got held back in 2cnd grade and I'm glad my mom chose to do that because I remember struggling and I hated going to school for that year. I would rather have that, then my child struggle with the school year and be completely uninterested in school and learning for the rest of her years.

I would just see if the public school can offer her speech. My 6 year old still has problem announcing certain sounds. As far as reading she really just knows sight words (59 of them) and she's always been in public school. The first grade teacher wants them to learn 40 by first semester then 200 at end of year.

I fell like their thought process is that the longer she’s there getting comfortable in her classroom with her teacher and classmates but still can’t catch up (if that’s the case) then the harder it’s going to be to move to a new classroom with new peers and also have missed the beginning of their curriculum which could just put her even further behind. Does that make sense? This is coming from a teacher standpoint. As a mom I understand the hesitation in wanting to hold her back and would say you can work with her but you’ve really got to dedicate every second of yourself to getting her caught up on top of helping her with all this new information she’s learning. It’s gonna be very hard and if you can’t commit 100% to it then holding her back might be the better option. She’s only in 1st grade it would be easier to do now for the sake of her education than making her struggle for who knows how long and lowering her self confidence later on when she’s always behind

Did they just start the new year? I feel like if you just started that teacher is not the best teacher. You should see who you need to talk to because that teacher sounds like she isn't going to help your child succeed.

@jack.ass, that was their first thought.! She started school on the Wednesday 22nd and on Monday the 27th her teacher talked with me after school.! & she basically said that she doesn’t have the time to give her extra help she has other students.! I just feel so bad for my baby I don’t want her to feel like she can’t ask for help.!

Has the school even attempted to give her extra help and support before saying that? Or was that their first thought?
