There’s a cloth diapering group.

My sister used them for her first. They can be reused for other kids, so that’s nice. But to get started you have to invest a bit of money. All of that stuff is not cheap at all.

Yes you can use them for another baby as long as you store them correctly. Do NOT put them in airtight container.

Not true. You don't have to get the "name brand" the "cheapies" get the job done. I spent maybe 200$ on my stash which is a lot less than disposals would have cost me. You can spend even less than that if you want to go somewhat old fashioned

@nerdymommyplus2, In my opinion, a $200 start up is not just peanuts. Speaking as someone who looked into it when living paycheck to paycheck I couldn’t fit it in. Yes, it saves money in the long run. And it’s great if you can. I use a cup instead of tampons/pads, I’m all about reusable. It’s saved me a crap ton of money, but they can also get expensive to start on. Worth it completely, but that kind of money can be difficult to come up with when on a tight budget.

There's also some cloth diapers that will let you put them on "layaway". It is affordable and I hate the stigma that they are expensive because they aren't. You can also even buy used.

If she goes old school she can go get fsts (flour sack towels) which are 10 for 10. She'll need like 2 or 3 packs. So let's say 30$

Then snappis are 10$ , idk about boingos. Then about 4-8 (7$ each for cheap ones)covers depending on how much baby poops. So for less than 100$ you can get a complete stash. She can honestly probably get by with two covers if she wraps the fsts good enough poop don't leak out.

@nerdymommyplus2, That’s great, is it ready and available to anyone and everyone? I know I haven’t ever heard of it. Personally, I wouldn’t buy used. It’s basically buying used underwear and if I wouldn’t do that for myself, I wouldn’t do that to my infant. I understand completely that it can be affordable and there are options, I think cloth diapering is great. But it isn’t a piece of cake for everyone.

Buying used isnt nasty. You just bleach soak or even strip and go. Bleach soak will kill any yeast or other bacteria. And no it doesn't damage the colors of the diapers if done correctly

@nerdymommyplus2, I didn’t say it was nasty, I know they can be cleaned/bleached. I said “Personally, I wouldn’t buy used.” Direct quote, emphasis on “personally.” I just have a general mistrust of other people because there is evil in this world.

@nerdymommyplus2, I didn’t say I do. I also said I’m all for cloth diapering. It isn’t important into what babies expel their waste, just that they stay clean. Their health is the most important thing.

@nerdymommyplus2, @c00kiemomster, thank you guys. I know it’s expensive to start with but saves money in the long run. If we can come up with enough to start I’d love to give it a try
