Being a mom is hard. Being a new mom is the hardest. You think the pregnancy is the hardest part, especially if you had a hard pregnancy. You think once the baby gets here everything will be fine. But reality sets in soon after once you’ve been sliced open, and you have this new little human who you don’t know and who doesn’t know you and you’re sent on your way with a pack of diapers and some pamphlets.

Now you’re home, and you have PPD, and you’re in pain mentally and physically. You’re exhausted, hurting from the physical, which is the easy part, but also hurting in the mental which is pain that you can’t explain. You feel alone even in a house full of people. You can’t accept the help without feeling overwhelming amounts of guilt. You can’t eat because you have no appetite.

Your life now is an endless cycle of pump, feed, change diapers, wash bottles, pump, feed, change diaper, wash bottles, and it never ends. At least it feels that way. The few hours of sleep you get is restless because you’re constantly waking up checking on the baby. Co sleeping, sids, colic, all the negatives run through your mind 24/7. It’s so easy to think that this new life was a mistake.

On top of all of this you have to accept your new body. The rolls, the chub, the scar, the stretch marks, all the things that you thought you wouldn’t care about. You change your clothes and shower without looking in the mirror.

Being a new mom is having food right next to you and falling asleep without eating it because your baby finally went to sleep on your chest and you’re too scared to move.

Being a mom is the HARDEST thing i have ever done. But i think it’s even harder watching my best friend, my sister, my whole world go through it. Watching her cry, watching her feel alone.

But i know, because i have been there twice, that this is only a season. All the milestones that are about to come are worth every single thing that keeps you up at night.

Hang in there mamas, you got this. Take the nap. Accept the help. ACCEPT THE HELP. ACCCCCCEPPPPTTTT THHHHHEE HELLPPPP. Just do it. It makes you no less of a mom.

You can do this. Take a breather. Look at that baby. This is just a season. And i am damn proud of you.

I just want to say thank you for this post. I’ve been denying that I have PPD but you really made me see that I need to talk to someone... I’m sorry that your sister is going through this as well, I wish you and her the best and I hope she gets out of this little funk soon
