My daughter went on Friday for a bite, but she was off so we saw someone else. The lady gave us meds, and sent us on our way. Said if it gets worse come back. (I trust no one but her, our pedi) So I texted her over the weekend while she was off and explained a little. And said shes been spiking a fever over 103. So she told me to text her the next day (sunday,) and I did. She told me she'd see us Monday. By Sunday the bite area looked better but she still had a fever. So we went in on Monday her fever was at 100.8, and she said she can't confidently say it is not from a tick, even though the bite area looks better, and it doesn't usually disappear so fast. She still was leaning towards tick because of how distinct the bite was at first. So to avoid waiting 4 weeks for a positive Lyme test she was going to start treatment now. Amoxicillin.
Went home, gave her Amoxicillin late Monday night, and she was up a lot, almost every hour, would cry a little and scratch profusely at her head. Woke up Tuesday with a rash.
So we called her pedis office and her pedi wasn't there. So they told us to stop the meds immediately, and wanted us to bring her into urgent care. (I didn't because they really don't know much, so I just monitored.) They left a note for her pedi to see this morning, and her pedis nurse must have called her because I got a text this morning from her Pediatrician saying she would call me about the medicine when she got to work. Lol.

That's an allergic reaction to the medicine...has she every had amoxicillin??

It sounds like she's having an allergic reaction to the Amoxicillin. Allergies to that are common, and she should be treated as soon as possible. Also, try to start new meds in the morning, never at bedtime. That way you can catch an allergic reaction faster.

@ecahanes Yeah, I gathered it was probably from the Amoxicillin. And no she hasn't. I don't know how true it is but someone who works in a pharmacy told me if they get a rash within the first couple doses it's a true allergy? Because I know overtime some kids/people can get a rash as a side effect not usually anything serious, but if it's right off the bat it's a real reaction?

@sassybitch I'll remember that for next time. I was just thinking about getting it in her as soon as possible since she needed it 3 times a day. But I stopped after yesterday morning.

@bhtslove, yes but my pediatrician said that 90% will grow out of it they are finding. They will test him when he is six

@sassybitch Thanks! It's never easy as a momma when you don't know or have a 100% confirmed diagnosis on what actually even caused the bite, diarrhea, and high fever to begin with. Or if they're even all connected. So it's hard to know how to make it go away and how to make them feel better!

@bhtslove Just be loving and supportive. I had tons of medical problems as a kid, but I remember my mom was always at my side. That made all the trips to the doctor and stays at the hospital so much more bearable!
