I’m starting to realize I’ve got a strong-willed child. I’ve been doing some reading on how to better parent/guide her and would love to hear any suggestions from moms who have experience with this. 😬

I don’t know about any books specifically on that but I did read that your stress from a strong willed child will pay off because she’ll be most likely to be a leader and very independent 😊

@inkedsouthernbelle, that’s what I’ve read and I’m super excited about that. I just want to make sure I keep my relationship with her strong and maintain the level of trust we have now. It seems that’s key to parenting a child like her. Patience too lol.

I have an incredibly strong willed boy. I evidently was the same way as a kid. Our pediatrician told us about ‘love and logic parenting’. The biggest takeaway that worked early on and I still use is offering choices. Even before DS was talking, if he’d get frustrated he wasn’t getting his way I’d offer choices. Even simple things like holding up two snacks or two pairs of shoes and letting him pick. He responds well to feeling empowered to make his own decisions and it cuts down on tantrums. Just a thought. Your little one is gorgeous btw! 😊

@kirstieh, thank you! I was hoping someone would comment with a book recommendation. I just noticed a change in her behavior at meal time. She was such a good eater but in the last week she’s been knocking the spoon out of my hand when I feed her prunes to help with constipation. She likes feeding herself, which is great. I’ve figured out that she’s willing to eat from a spoon as long as I put some finger foods on her tray so she can feed herself too. I guess it makes her feel more in charge so the compromise is worth it.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I need all the help I can get lol

@crystalhealing, girl, we all need all the help we can get. 😝 I keep thinking it will be easier once baby can (fill in blank).. I’ve discovered every age is just as challenging but sooo cool to see them grow; we just got past potty training and DS is so much more self sufficient now at four, and we’re still trying for another, so we can start figuring out parenting all over again. Haha 😬

Lol I’ve prepared myself for this not getting easier until she’s an adult. My fiancé was strong-willed and apparently so was I. I didn’t realize I was because my parents died when I was a kid so I don’t have them here to remind me of those things. My aunt had to break the news to me lol. It was my fiancé’s mother who noticed it in Maggie recently and she recommended I get as much info as possible on the subject. 😆

Good luck on your journey ttc baby #2! If he or she is strong-willed like your son, I’d say you’re ready for it!

@rnjohnson2116, thanks! Lol and good luck to you if yours gets that from you lol. I didn’t notice the signs with Maggie until last week and she’s 9 months today. I’m ordering books on the subject and keeping my fridge stocked with wine for the challenging days to come 😂

@rnjohnson2116, the first thing I noticed was at meal time. She was such a good eater. She took to baby led weaning immediately. After having constipation several times I began to spoon feed her prunes to help. It went fine at first but this past week she’s started knocking the spoon out of my hand and yelling at me. So after taking to my MIL she explained that Ryan was a strong-willed child and exhibited the same behaviors. I started reading about it online and it was like an aha moment for me.

@rnjohnson2116, lol I doubt it’s a phase. I didn’t know this until last night because my parents died when I was a kid but my aunt informed me that I was VERY strong-willed too. So I can’t blame Ryan for this haha. She gets it from us both. Lawd help me 😆
