Moms who breastfed, do you have a schedule with them? We recently introduced soilds and I want to start giving them to my daughter 3x a day. Like breakfast lunch and dinner. I want her to get into some kind of routine hoping it'll help with her naps and being able to lay her down for naps instead of constantly having to hold her. Any suggestions?

I never did a routine. Food before one is for fun and baby food doesn’t have the calories babies need for development. As far as sleeping, solids never helped my daughter sleep more or better. If anything it makes it harder if the food makes them constipated, gives them diarrhea, or upsets their stomach.

@glencoco I guess my main concern is, school is starting back up at the end of the month and although all my classes are online, I'm worried about not getting the time to be able to complete them and get homework and assignments done. McKenna doesnt nap unless held so it's kind of a hard situation lol

@lolnic0le.bb, our nutritionalist wanted us to drop 1 bottle at 6 months and give food instead. All drs and nutritionist have different opinions. When it comes to it it’s your child and you know best. It helped mine with naps but you never know 🤷🏻♀️

@babymamaof4 true. I agree 100 percent with you! I know when McKenna eats soilds before nap or even dinner, it has helped her fall into a deeper sleep so shes not constantly searching for the boob lol
Heather·
@lolnic0le.bb, exactly! Mine was having a hard time gaining weight so we had to switch to formula and it helped some but then she went overboard with it and wanted it every 2 hours so in our case we added more food and she was happier. Now she’s a chunk! She’s 9 month now and we’ve done a lot of blw and she has 8 teeth so she wants to bite food

@babymamaof4 lol McKenna always wants my food so I'll let her lick or try it. My goal is to breastfeed until 12 months but I just feel like we need some kind of routine!
Heather·
@lolnic0le.bb, oh yeah it’s good for them to have routines.

I agree with @glencoco, I never did a routine. My son is now 13 months and gets 3 meals a day most of which still ends up on the floor. He’s naturally dropped some breast feeds himself but I still feed on demand. There’s no way at 6 months his tummy would have coped with 3 solid meals a day, and solids didn’t help him sleep better either. Each child is different though, it may work for yours.

I don't have a schedule I just start giving her solids when she fuss.
She still spits out the food.
So right now she is exclusively breast feed.

Start with one meal and gradually take it up to 3 if you already do breakfast I would add in dinner and then eventually lunch. I breastmilk feed usually 5am, she has breakfast (oats) at about 7.30/8, breastmilk again at 9am, breastmilk at 12pm and lunch (fruit purée), 3/3.30pm breastfeed, 5 pm dinner, 7pm breastfeed and usually bed

Oh sorry I wanted to say I started solids at about 5 months so she is having 3 meals a day.

@leahplummer typically she eats breakfast (oatmeal and sometimes fruit) and then veggies for dinner and breastfeeding all throughout the day lol. Did you create the routine you guys have or did it naturally come? If you did create it, how did you do it?

It sort of happened as feedings got further apart I try to get her to have a full feed as in both sides at every feeding so she’s not just snacking and can last 3 to 3 1/2 hours at this age during the day and the I always have aimed to feed her as soon as she wakes up from a sleep so she doesn’t fall asleep feeding and then when she starts to get fussy (about 2 hours later) I know she’s tired and not hungry I just lay her in her bed with her dummy and she goes to sleep. At night time sometimes she’ll fall asleep feeding but not throughout the day. And I just added in solids from there. Ideally she would eat solids after a feeding and then eventually just have solids and feeding morning and night until after 1. I think with all of my kids I kind of followed the babywise method which can be a bit controversial but I just tweaked it to what I was comfortable with (they do a modified cry it out) and just went with that but I do highly recommend it if your struggling.

@leahplummer thank you! That's definitely some helpful info. I appreciate it and may work with some of it a bit!
