Suggesting instead of asking worked better for me both times.

I do every 30 minutes

Don't ask! I just said, "time to use the potty!" If I asked, my 2 year old saw it as more of a choice... And generally replied with a "no!" even tho he did have to go. Keep it light and fun! Don't get frustrated. We promised mine a fish if he "pooped in the potty". And he did... We got him a fish... And then I used the fish as a constant reminder. "Remember, you have a fish because you go in the potty now. You have a fish so you have to go in the potty." It worked for us. And for awhile... Every time he'd finish using the potty, he'd immediately want to go see his fish. He related the two. We just got a bowl and a beta, so it's easily cared for.

And I also put him on the potty about every hour. Sometimes I gave him a coloring book and tray, so he would see sitting in the potty as fun.

If they totally fight it or freak out... JUST STOP! Take a break... You can always go back to it. And I see she's only 1.7 so you've got plenty of time. Good luck!

@britt. That's great.. She's got a Betta fish we use it as her night light.. I was thinking a really fun chart with stickers and things that she can apply her self.. She's very independent.

@britt. Yeah she has used it mayb 4 times on her own..at her own pace for sure.. Just want a head start before the new arrival..thanks for the advice 🤗

People told me to take them to the potty every 20 mins

We started with every 20 minutes for a couple days, then upped it by ten minutes every day he was doing well. Within a week we were doing every hour.
