Anyone shop at Fareway and Aldi? If so which one do you like better? I like to shop at cheaper…

@nandf I have a bunch but I sometimes forget and when trying to pay and get it out of the store with 3 kids its horrible because I have to bag it myself. Just a pain in the butt lol

I do the majority of my shopping at Aldi. Even the plastic bags for $0.10 can be reused many times over. I have bags from years ago that I still reuse, along with some of the stronger bags and freezer style bags.

When I'm done with putting away groceries, I put all the bags together in a place that will remind me to put them back in my car. I just carry all the bags in my car with me at all times so I never forget. I always keep a quarter in my car and purse for that too.

As far as bagging my own stuff, sometimes I bag them at the car with my kid playing in the back seat, sometimes I let her play with the receipt while I bag inside. You get a system going when you do it enough so it goes fast eventually, but I've only had to do it with one child.

Could you go while your SO or someone else is home with the kids? I leave DD with her dad sometimes while I grocery shop to make it quicker and get some me time.

It'll definitely save you money if you can stand that inconvenience. My grocery bill is $300-$350/month, and I don't really restrict us on anything.

@haslberry so my budget is probably 290-300 for 5 people. We also get WIC which gets us milk and bread and eggs and fruit. I could have my SO watch my kiddos but won't have a lot of time.

@mommyof.3, well the stuff you say WIC covers is probably 30% of my food budget, so it's doable for that amount and that many people if you have a plan and list before heading in. We have a lot of staples and meals that we rotate so it makes the trip quick. I organize my shopping list by how I walk through the store and don't really deviate much unless I see something fancy I want to try 😂. If I'm shopping alone, I go so fast that I usually spend more time waiting to check out than I did putting stuff in the cart.

@haslberry i wish i could do that! I always try to just get what we need but i get distracted and get more! Im not very good at grocery shopping.
