@colh416 My mom told me if you overuse the word no it loses it's effect. I have no idea if that's true or not, just my mom's opinion really. But it has worked for us.

Even though my daughter is young I try and explain to her why she can't do or have certain things. It usually takes 1 or 2 times explaining and she will never do it again. We also don't use the word "no" unless it is something dangerous. My opinion on that was just so that we aren't constantly telling her no and she can understand that when we say no we mean it. So far it has worked for us. If she ever throws a fit or anything which happens occasionally, we put her in her pack and play for 1 minute and walk away.
