Yes. My son knows better not to say those words, he will call me out on it and say “don’t say that”. I won’t be the mom who hides shit from my son, I’m very cut and dry and to the point. Being upfront and being yourself to your child is the best way to be.
@spookylyn, That may be true, but I just feel like we as their parents are their role models and they are going to say and do what they see us say and do. We can teach them what is unacceptable language and behavior without doing it ourselves
My son came home from school at the age of 6 saying " what the fuck" when he was frustrated. Then "fuck you" and laughs when u pick on him. He never heard us use it and so at school the kids use it and so I had to explain they aren't nice words and only for adults. Etc etc. So now yes I use all the different ones in front of him and after I use them I say that's a bad word and not even I should use it but coming from a child it sounds just rude and nasty. Now he doesnt say any kind of bad words including damn, hell, frick, or anything. I also felt that if I would of taught him sooner he would of known better instead of using the words so freely learning them at school and who knows how long hes been saying them before hes said them in front of us
@squishymommy1 I guess they are older children but I try the best that I can to have my children grow up with thee best manners and respect possible and not have people look down on them because they have a dirty mouth.
I try not to but when I’m surrounded by grown ups is hard... but I’m really trying not to, even he will remind me and by saying “ma you said a bad word” & I’ll apologize.
Been young and pretty much raising my cousin at age 14-17 at first I didn’t cuss but I learned that some of them cussed all the time during school and playing with their friends. I decided I couldn’t hide it from them... why try to block it away from them when thy do live in the real world and will hear it on tv, in public, school and other place. I decided to take the time and teach them it’s bad but it’s not wrong to express yourself some times.. just know they will get called out if they over use it. They’ve grown up pretty good and they respect when adults are around.. now being 6, 9, 10 they know better but we are human and even us grown up slip sometimes why punish them if they slip here and there.. just let them know it’s not right it enough for me.

It’s less about them being respectful because I think you can still be respectful and well mannered and still swear (to a certain extent) and more about them not understanding there’s a time and place in which certain words are not okay to use.

I swear too much, and need to stop around the kiddos. My youngest heard me call her dad a lazy fucker and said “bye, bye lazy fucker” as we walked out the door! No more cussing around her! 🤦🏼♀️

Occasionally we do, but it's not very often. Sometimes we slip up here and there.
