My 6 year old son just asked me "how do you create a baby?"

My niece ask me shes also 6 i just told her god created them haha

I say love plants a seed in the moms belly lol

I told my son they’re created out of love. He accepted it for the time being

I say go with the truth, but the most basic truth and expand as they get older and ask more questions. So basic for a 6 year old might be “A mom and Dad decide to have a baby, they get really close and then the tiny baby goes into the Mom to grow until big enough to come out” a different 6 year old might need more explanation, and they definitely will by 8 and 10 and so forth.

@amysbabies my son is 9 next month and just asked me about it and why he couldn't be in the room watching her be born. I told him its created thru intimacy with the person you love. He knows intimacy is for adults and when your in love. He knows nothing else about intimacy or how it works, he thinks its kissing and I went with it. The kids at school all talk and they are learning it so much younger then when I was in school. It's hard conversations once they get older and start asking questions.

I tried the "created out of love" thing but he didn't buy it lol. He said "yeah, but HOW?" He asked as I was sending him to bed so I told him ask me again in the morning 😆

@spookylyn, thank you! I was completely caught off guard and didn't know what to say lol. I've always planned on telling the truth when he asked but didn't know how to appropriately explain it to a 6-year-old.

My mother had to do this for my younger siblings when I gave birth to my son last year and she just told them 100% truth age appropriate of course. They are 7 and 6 years old

Everyone may not agree but it was always very open in our family. It wasn't this big secret or something kids had to ask about. It wasn't ever something that was like given in detail, talking about sex lives or anything to or in front of the kids; but we always understood sex is normal, mommy and daddy do it, that's how we all got here etc. No one was ever uncomfortable or awkward about it. It was taught to us as it shouldn't be something to be awkward or embarrassed about. We were taught, though it isn't something we talk about to our friends/other kids etc. Go to mommy and daddy. We were explained everything about pregnancy and babies. None of the kids in our family (me, my siblings, 26+ cousins) ever had curiosity issues or anything. That's how we will be doing it as well.

@chadandtanya14, that’s great he understand the word intimacy :). I think some adults struggle with that word ;). True- kids are younger and younger. My mom gave me a basic talk around 8- but not any details- she used the metaphor of a bee pollinating a flower. I learned all the details with my friends as curious 11 year olds—- not us actually doing anything, just sharing info we knew and a few girls had a book and shared info. I swear we had some of the dirtiest talks, but were also the most innocent little girls. God, I can’t imagine my daughter talking how I did with friends at 11.

So a little update.

He didn't ask again this morning so I brought it up with him. I told him about a mom and dad getting close and creating a baby. Told him about eggs and sperm and how the baby starts out really tiny and grows into a full sized baby. That seemed to be enough for him for now! Glad that's over lol
