Do any of you mamas use sign language with your littles? My dd is 16 months and has started to make…

I do i mean im not the best at it im learning at my job but the the little i know i teach my boys:)

This is a tough one because at least there’s gestures lol but ultimately I would correct. I correct for the primary language so why should ASL be any different.

I did some sign language with my daughter around 11 months and she knew about 10 signs and a couple weren’t exact but close enough.. Personally I would just stick with the ones that she made up and start incorporating new ones if you want..the main thing is that she’s communicating with you..

I do sign with my oldest. He usually says words but the signs I taught him he won’t say the words.. please and thank you he will only sign he won’t even try to say it. Also I did “all done” when he was done eating. None of which he will say but will say other words.

In the past I tried to correct her, but some signs morphed into others, lol. My husband says to just use them, because it’s still communication and we know what she’s saying. She doesn’t speak yet, we speak two languages at home and hasn’t spoken in either language yet. She only does the signs.
