Why do I keep hearing people say or seeing people write about when it's "okay" to have a beer or alcohol in your pregnacy?? It's never okay or safe whether you are 10 weeks, 28 weeks, 40 weeks etc.. It is not safe or fair to your unborn baby and as a mother it is your job to protect that baby and keep them healthy even while still in your body!!!

It’s usually cultural.

One glass of red wine is good for your blood pressure and heart and many countries tell pregnant women that one glass is healthy.

Culture is no excuse. We have access to information that says there is NO proven safe amount of alcohol and it is unknown what exposure leads to FAS. Therefore, any amount is a risk and selfish.

@oktoberwitch yes I've heard one glass of red wine every now and then but I've also heard some Drs say no wine at all. I chose not to have any wine. But im not even talking about wine. Im talking about when someone thinks beer or alcohol (vodka, rum, etc) is okay to enjoy during your pregnancy.

@michaelsmommy17, yeah. Again, I think it’s cultural.

@michaelsmommy17 I am a wine fanatic but during my pregnancy I didn't drink it at all. I quit drinking hard liquor when I got pregnant with my DD and haven't gone back to it except for very occasionally when we go out to dinner I might get one little drink. Like oktober said it's definitely cultural and I'm sure it really does absolutely no harm to your baby I just decided I wasn't going to. I come from a large Italian family so wine is a norm for me.

@momsrmagical I love my wine. Before I got pregnant its all I drank! . But during pregnancy I didn't drink anything. I know she mentioned culture and wine but I was referring to alcohol as far as hard liquors and beer. Culture or not there not safe.

@laniejay thank you!!! Just because it's someone's culture doesn't mean it's safe! Wine, beer, vodka.... any of it.

@michaelsmommy17 yes that I definitely agree with. I first off cannot stand the smell of beer there for where will not drink it. I would never ever ever drink hard liquor during a pregnancy either

@michaelsmommy17, drives me insane when people use location or culture as a reason to do unsafe things. Last time I checked- no latter your culture and location, we are all human.... your baby doesn’t defy physics and science.

@let_there_be_life @laniejay agreed!! That's like saying " in my culture everyone smokes cigarettes while pregnant so it's safe". None of it is safe during pregnancy! And how can anyone put that into their body knowing it is going to their baby?? There's no excuse

@michaelsmommy17, seriously though going 9 months without smoking or drinking shouldn’t be so hard for the baby you’re creating and if it is maybe just MAYBE they should reconsider having kids being pregnant means being selfless your only concern should be taking care of yourself and that baby!!

@michellemybell09 amen👏👏👏. Perhaps some people should practice safe sex if it's so hard or a burden to not ingest certain things for 9 months.

The only time I think it’s “okay” or “acceptable” is if you have a medical professional telling you that for your own safety (meaning to help with blood pressure is the most common thing I’ve heard) you need to have a glass of RED WINE however often. That’s it. Any other time is absolutely disgusting. The fact that people can’t give up their vice for 9 months for the safety of their baby really disgusts me. I have so many family members that continue smoking through pregnancies or drinking and all I can think about is that poor helpless baby that can’t defend themselves against it and just have to suffer because their mom is too ignorant to care about them. I could go on and on about this topic but I should just stop now 🙄

@michaelsmommy17, yes I agree, if you can’t go without than don’t get pregnant until you are ready to not drink, and in my opinion, pregnancy comes with a lot of compromise but not drinking or doing drug is not one, it should be common sense.

@michaelsmommy17, yeap. An occasional drink shouldn't harm the baby as long as its light drinking. https://www.health.harvard.edu/blog/study-no-connection-between-drinking-alcohol-early-in-pregnancy-and-birth-problems-201309106667

i don't usually drink because i dont like it too much but i went out for my aniversary for example and had a piña colada. With my first baby I had a hard's mike lemonade once or twice and she was perfectly healthy. No developmental issues what so ever either (in fact she crawled at 5 months and walked at 8months, she is still thriving. She was born at 39w and weighted 7lbs and 11oz, 20in long) so yeah i dont say drinking all the time or even often but in the 9 months i believe you can have a drink or two and nothing happens. honestly.
