Circumcision has its pros and cons and from my personal experience I think it's best for when they get older I don't want to say to much cause thats going into details with my life but I strongly recommend it but to each is own I know some moms who regret not doing it in my family but hey it is what it is

I’m glad I didn’t cosmetically alter my boys 🤷🏼♀️

I usually don’t chime in on circumcision discussions, but I will here. My son was born a premie (33w3) He was too sick they would not circumcise him, and our second son has special needs and due to his brain injury at birth they’d not do him either. That being said my husband didn’t wish to have them done at that time and neither did I, and we were ok with the fact the doctors didn’t recommend it given their being sick at birth. Fast forward my sons are now 7 and 4. This past Wednesday my 7 year old underwent surgery with a paediatric urologist to preform a circumcision and correction of his urethra. We battled 3 years with creams and bladder meds before resorting to medical fixation, we tried everything they threw at us to see if this issue would rectify. Our sons both suffered from fused foreskin and pinched/narrow urethra which is passed down on the paternal side. For our kids it was medically necessary and I wish they hadn’t suffered with multiple infections, splitting, ballooning and struggling to even urinate. Our 4 year old will have to be done on August 4th. It’s horrid from both procedures our 7 year old has over 45 stitches on his genitals and can still hardly walk after surgery Wednesday. I wish we had been able to have them both done younger as we had no idea the issue went to the extent of their urethra and feel badly they dealt with it as long as they have. I get it some people see circumcision at birth as “cosmetic”, but for some people like my sons, and their grandfather it’s medically necessary. I don’t judge either way, and we tried to avoid the surgery but the medications etc and creams did not work. I believe each mom and family has a choice and shouldn’t be judged.

Seeing as tho it can potentially lower the risk of a male contracting STDs I wouldn't consider it cosmetic at all. There are definitely pros and cons .. But I am glad I chose to do it.

We did it for our son and not once have we ever considered it a "cosmetic" procedure. As long as the parents do the research and make an informed decision, then that's what matters. I just don't feel like it's a topic that continuously needs to be debated. People will do what they want to do anyway.

Most insurance companies consider it cosmetic. That’s why some don’t cover it.

@amouryaya09, So true, it’s not covered here unless like my sons it’s medically necessary years down the road.

@beakymcspence, yup for mine also. They were charging $300. 😔

@amouryaya09, It’s about $450 here I believe. At birth it’s considered “elective” so not covered under AHS, unless deemed medically necessary. Even in that case it was about 3 years before the urologist ordered it, we’d been seeing him since our 7 year old was 4. It wasnt something he was quick to order it was a long process of trying everything else prior.

@beakymcspence, so when he ended up having the procedure done was it covered?

@amouryaya09, Yes he had it done this past Wednesday (the 18th) He had the fused skin removed, and his urethra fixed (His was very narrow and barely functioning) It was covered because it was deemed medically necessary) My husbands father had it done, but was in high school.

@beakymcspence, I hope he’s feeling better!

@amouryaya09, He’s definitely not struggling to pee now so that’s the main thing!

I had my son did after birth and he healed great he had no problems and he wasn’t crying in pain either but to each is definitely it’s own . I can only talk and judge from my son experience now had it went a different way then I’d probably feel a different way

Im glad i got both my sons done. It's not cosmetic where I'm from and its just better when they Get older with no infections and stuff. My sister joked around when she found out she was having a boy and said she's getting him circumcised because her son won't have a turtleneck dick all his life!!! Lmao

@beakymcspence omg sorry that happen to your babies and that's understandable and my eyes just watered hearing your story that's horrible and I hate they couldn't be younger cause now it's like torture but it's medical omg I pray and wish you the best and pray teh babies have a fast healing process and you be strong mama is it something stronger they can give them for pain or something being their older and have more feeling ???

A man will get an std regardless of being circumcised or not (the chances are the same, teach them to use condoms), the "higher chances" of having an infection for not being circumcised is not true (unless they have a medical problem), and the bad joke of it looking like a "turtle neck dick" is pretty weird. It's a personal choice and I don't think anyone cares to know what our sons Penis looks like.

As a nurse I have never seen issues with normal penises. However I have seen many females with many UTIs and yeast infection. My husband also was born with foreskin and has no issues. He takes a shower just like me problem solved. My son was also born with foreskin no issues there either. I think a lot of the times problems come from mothers retracting the foreskin, using harsh soaps, and not keeping their children hydrated. Not saying this happen to anyone, just saying that's the common case of issues. I just suggest to mothers do your research, don't just ask your husband. I didn't just talk to my husband, but I talk to men from all over. As well as my pediatrician. In the end it's your choice but I suggest you research it well because one day you will no longer own your sons penis and he will live with the choice you choose
