Hi everyone. I use to be on the baby bump app but I was more of a lurker. I love readi g what you all have to say and I'm in desperate need of consolation. I've just received a phone call from my doctors office telling me that I will have to have a c section because of some health issues I don't want to get into. And I'm in a panic. I've had 2 children vaginally and never thought about having to get a C-section. I'm in tears I'm so scared. If any of you ladies have any experience or advice PLEASE comment me your stories. Good or bad. I want to know what to possibly expect. Thank you

I had an emergency c-section with my second. It wasn't as bad as I thought.
You stay pretty sore around the incision for awhile but it honestly was better to me than having my first vaginally.
but everyone is different.
it was super cold in the delivery room. I was shaking so much. & The epi they give is weird it numbs from like right under your chest and down. I was so tired by the time they took me in for the emergency c section I lowkey fell asleep but I don't remember feeling a thing at all, lol

@p. I want to know the whole process. I'm more afraid of being numb up to my chest. My anxiety is already through the roof and I'm not sure if I'll be able to stay calm through it all.

I had one with my dd and I thought healing was a breeze. I’m anemic, so I had blood transfusions, but that’s common. The first time I got up was hard, but I was walking laps pretty easily. I had to go under, but I held my baby in the way to recovery & I nursed her right away. I know it’s scary, but mine was easier then I thought it would be. Do you have time to take a c-section class at your hospital? My SIL said her c-section was easier to heal from. I wish you all the best

I had two c sections and it goes so fast I promise you’re in and out. I asked the nurse and anesthesiologist to continue to tell me that my vitals were normal (it feels weird being numb, but it wears off quickly in the chest once your surgery is over). My c section recoveries were a breeze, I was out of the hospital in 48 hours and walking up and down stairs, taking full care of my baby, etc. Get out of bed and sit in a chair and walk as soon as you can, it’ll help with recovery, and don’t be afraid to keep a consistent pain med routine while you’re in the hospital. They’ll give you meds that are ok to breast feed with.

@mommilove, I have anxiety too. I asked the anesthesiologist for something to help with my nerves and, let me tell you, it worked!

If I remember correctly, I think including prep time and my ob to sew me back up it was like 20 mins give or take a few min. It seemed like it went by so fast lol
& I stayed sore for awhile. The heal time is 8 weeks for that. but I felt fine after abt 5-6.

I've had 3 c sections. My first one (emergency) was the worst recovery but my last two (scheculed) the healing was a breeze. My advice is to take it slowly for the first couple days but do get up and walk when they allow you to - it helps with getting your bowels moving again and decreasing gas bubbles. Otherwise, stay on top of your medication around the clock (I did Aleeve once every 12 hours and tylenol as well every 4-6 hours) and it helped immensely. Request or bring stool softeners with you because that first poop is God awful, and so are the few following.
I found the more I moved afterwards the quicker I healed and I felt back go normal two weeks after my last one which was 3 months ago. The actual incision took around 4 weeks to completely close, but everything else felt great.
Also when you're in the surgery tell them right away when you start feeling nauseous. The spinal makes you feel sick and they can prevent you from throwing up if you tell them soon enough. Same goes for itching, I always have a reaction to the spinal and can scratch myself raw without benadryl.
Good luck to you! Please keep us posted.

During the actual surgery, your arms will be laid out to your sides and I felt like I couldn't move them because of being numb up to the chest. It is freezing cold, and it's crazy to hear the surgical team chatting amidst all of this.
I actually started feeling burning and tugging during the section, so I had to ask my anesthesiologist for more numbing. My C-section occurred after 21 hours of labor & 2 hours of pushing, so I was completely drained, emotionally & physically. All I could do when they brought baby by me was say "Hi baby" and pretty much collapse.
Afterwards, they might keep your catheter in for a while and may strap those leg compression things on your calves to prevent blood clots. I also had to breathe into a contraption to make sure my lungs continued to function well.
Ask for help when you need it. I had to have my husband and the nurse help me use the toilet for the first time, as I couldn't even bend to wipe myself. Try to hold a pillow on your incision if you need to cough, laugh, or ride in a car.
The entire experience was completely overwhelming for me, and I broke down crying to the nurses several times. They were so compassionate & awesome!
If you have a scheduled section, things may go a lot smoother for you. I certainly hope they do! But I also think you should be aware that the experience can be scary and the recovery is a bitch for some of us. Good luck to you momma! I will be thinking of you!
