FIL is driving me up the wall with potty training. He keeps saying our son needs to be in undies asap and that we need to get on it. First things first he's not even two yet, we have introduced the potty to him and he hasn't completely taken to it yet but we got the sitting on the potty thing down and he has used it two times over a couple months. So we are worling our way up. It just really irritates me when he says he needs to be done with it now and onto underwear otherwise he will be 5 and never get out of diapers. Excuse me?! Are you the one taking him to the potty and sitting with him? No? So shut up and let him do this at his own pace.

My son just started wearing undies and he's three!! I didn't start introducing him until two at least

@ecahanes see and that's normal! We are not fully going crazy on the potty training right now we plan on working on it more when he turns two and hopefully have him ready by three. It's just annoying like stop telling us how to raise and potty train our son. Plus I heard it takes boys longer to get it than girls.

My dd1 is just a month younger than your ds. She just now starting to be interested in the potty. My ds isn't fully trained yet. He wears real underwear, but still has accidents (mostly poops). Don't let your fil get to you. Like you said, is he the one taking your ds to the pot? He's your child and you're the one that's going to be cleaning up after him, not your fil. Train him on your terms :)

Don’t take anyone’s advice when it comes to potty training. You know your child better than anyone. With that said, I totally recommend the oh crap potty training book! We’re on day 5 of that method and doing great!

Do what you gotta do. Don’t listen to what he has to say. You’re the mom and you’re the one helping your son. He’ll eventually get the hang of it but for him to say it needs to be done now? Every child is different and if he gets it fast, ok and if it takes him more time, that’s totally fine! You got this don’t worry!

@leenie what's worse is we live with him so he always offers unwanted opinions so this won't be the last time he brings it up. He hasn't had to deal with the baby/toddler stage either so I don't appreciate him assuming and acting like he knows better. Our son has a girl cousin that is a week older than him and her mom has started potty training her and got her underwear and diapers for night time. His little cousin is doing pretty good with it so far.and I think my FIL is seeing that and thinks our son should be at the same level which is annoying. I'm about to talk to my husband about his dad backing off on it and letting us train him at our own pace and our son's pace.

@brittgale thanks I will look into the book :)

@xfatalnikkix my point exactly every kid is different and if it takes my son a bit longer that's ok. Thanks! It's just so frustrating when my FIL keeps bringing it up like he has to deal with it.

@aylenrose oh yeah, living with him is tough. Ignore what you can and do what you think is best. I'd be petty and start giving him unwanted advice. Ha

My son wasn’t ready until 3 . He has fully potty trained(at night) by 3 1/2. We can’t force them they have to be ready. I’d tell him to back off!
