Someone bought me a nogginest for a shower gift which claims it is safe for newborns. It says it helps prevent flat head syndrome (fhs). We don't plan on putting this in the crib (so please don't attack me there) but we are wondering would you use it? Anyone else have to worry about FHS? Suggestions about this "infant/newborn" item? Thank you.

I had never heard of it. I personally would not use it but we also didn't have any issues or concerns with flat head.

To prevent flat head, you really just need to do tummy time and hold baby to your chest ie not always flat on their back. That said, I think some baby’s are just more likely to get it period. I could see using a pillow like that maybe while on the playmat on the floor- with direct supervision only. Or maybe in the swing?

The reason so many kids have skull issues is because they’ve become “container babies”. They’re swapped from one thing to another- swing, bouncer, back, etc. As a society we are told holding your babies is wrong, spoiling them and not do do it. This is the result.
Hold your baby as is natural and intended. Babywear. Tummy time. You’ll have nothing to worry about.
*disclaimer* not ALL flat head syndrome is caused by this, there are medical issues... however, much of it is.

@penelope127 no gift receipt, apparently a purchase straight from the company. So not really. I was told after your kid is 12 months pillows are safe but I don't know if his head will be too big for it by then anyway.
