Anyone have experience in the insurance industry?
I recently switched to progressive insurance from Allstate. They are forcing me to add my 16 year old son on my policy. He doesn’t have a permit and has no interest anytime in the near future. If I exclude him my insurance will go up $300! If I put him on and add him as a child non rated driver without a permit it will go up $135. They said if I make him get a permit it may not go up, but I won’t know for sure until all said and done. This is such a headache, I should have stayed with Allstate. The only reason I switched was because they quoted a significant cheaper amount. That’s changed very quickly 😡

That is so strange. You can change companies anytime. Maybe keep looking.

Something doesn't sound right. I would just tell em no that's not happening. They are just trying to make more money for the company. When I got my own insurance they had renters insurance under there for 3 years no one mentioned anything until I tried to rent a car and I was too young 😑😑 why did I have that on there if I was only 19.

Me. I used to work for American Family Insurance. If you're son has no license or permit he should NOT be forced to be added to your policy. This makes ZERO sense. Why add him if he isn't even able to drive? Honestly I would switch companies. I would not keep them. Cancel and look around. If you cancel they might need you to sign something. Make you sure do. Otherwise they will keep charging you.

I will add tho. Every state is different maybe look up your states rules. Call around to different insurance companies and tell them you have a 16 year old son. See what they say. It just makes nonsense at all to add a person who doesn't even drive or own a permit.

I don't have a license or permit and AllState still had to add my name to my husbands insurance but it didn't go up any because of that.

It's cause they think he is gonna drive without a permit... not saying it's right, but that's why they are forcing it

I talked to the underwriting department and until my son gets his permit my insurance went up $36 a month. He said it’s Arizona law as long as they have a permit and under 21 it won’t effect my rate.
