I rarely get in involved in a back and forth, but if I do it's not usually because I think I can change that person's mind. It's because I think there may be others on the fence that would listen to reason reading along. In those cases I pipe in so the right information is overwhelmingly outweighing the bad (like when 15 other people have already said it), or if there's an aspect of the argument that hasn't been presented yet.
