If you're taking 1 opk a day try to take it around the same time every day and about your average mid day. It will give you a better feel for where you're really at. Like @spookylyn said our lh fluctuates during the day with most inaccurate reading being with fmu or early after waking up.

@jessig2006, I take 2 a day. One around noon and one at 7 ish
