So today is #WorldAirwayDefectsDay. The light blue ribbon is what represents it. Both Justice and Rylan have the same defect called Laryngomalacia or LM for short. Since birth both had had squeaky cries, stridor, trouble breathing, wheezing, they sleep funny to open their airways, and have a hard time getting through just the common cold, so you can imagine what RSV, the Flu, and Croup have done to them. Just the common cold could put them or any child with an airway defect in the ICU. We've had plenty of doctors appointments, ER visits, and a few hospitalizations have been apart of this journey. Some children have severe LM to the point they have blue spells, need surgery, or need oxygen. Other than LM there's also BM and TM airway defects as well and a child can have just 1, 2, or all 3.

With Justice it was a long, hard, scary road to getting his diagnosis cause nobody knew what was going on until he was 10 months. And Rylan got diagnosed early at 1 month cause I knew what signs to look for her also has dysphagia (trouble swallowing), he aspirates, and has GERD related asthma that hopefully he'll outgrow. Most children "grow out" of LM but do they really? Some children long past the age of 2 still have issues. We still have a long road ahead of us but we'll get through it!
