Just pumped for the first time with an electric. Only lasted 8 minutes and I got just under an ounce. My nipple and areoola area feels a little weird/uncomfortable, any tips for future pumping session? Is this weird tingly feeling normal? I have the Spectra S2 if that matters.

@taylorsmommy1017, no, should? I didn’t get this feeling when I used a hand pump.

Adjust the machine, make sure your nipple is in the middle of the flange.

I never had a problem with nipple pain when breastfeeding, I couldn't even feel my letdown until I started pumping. It hurt my nipples but they got used to it. Now it doesn't phase them. Try expressing some breast milk to rub on them. It's supposed to help with healing. At least that's what I learned in my breastfeeding class.

@sky105, it was. I guess the discomfort is more on the areola area but I feel it like a lingering sensation in both. Idk if that makes sense.

@mizzdrea, okay I’ll try that. Breastmilk cures everything lol

Make sure you have the right sized flange. Mine was too big and it would suck too much boob in. I use the medela but the same thing could happen with the spectra. The size is based on you nipple not cup size. I am a DD but have to use the smallest size. Also the lanolin helps! I think it gets easier with time also. I have been exclusively pumping for 7 months so if you have any questions let me know.

@taylorsmommy1017, okay thanks, I have lanolin so I’ll put some on before and see if that helps.

@kristinsilk, I used the “standard” size, there was a bigger one but that left a lot of space around my nipple so I assumed that would pull in more areola when pumping began. Any tips you have will be great! I’m completely lost to the pumping game.

@lilinnocence718, see if you can find a smaller flange. Also measure your nipples, there’s a video online and Medela has a guide. That way you get the right fit. Another thing that helps is to massage your breast while pumping, kinda hand express while you pump. There are also videos on that. You can also make your own has free bra by cutting holes in an old sports bra for the flange to go through. Then your hands are free so you can multitask. It gets easier! Just stick with it.

@kristinsilk, thank you for all the advice!
