So I finally accomplished for my 2 week old to latch on to feed. Only on one boob though.

Question is...

I pumped right after he was done since he didn’t eat from the other boob.

If I pump and he’s still hungry will I still have milk or no? Cuz I pump out the left overs basically

Your breasts are never truly empty so yes you will still have milk. But I would discourage from pumping right now unless you’re going back to work next week. You need your supply to regulate to your baby’s needs and by pumping after feeding you’re making your body think you have twins. It’s normal to only nurse from one side for every feeding. Just alternate sides and if one side gets too full then hand Express a little for Comfort.

My baby is 2.5 months and still only eats from one side per feeding. My daughter did the same until she was 5 months.

It’s normal for babies to prefer one side over the other. But you still need to use both sides. If it comes out too fast you can unlatch him during the letdown and let it spray into a rag then latch him back on. Or pump out a half ounce first then latch him.

My 2 month old only eats from one side and I only pump twice a day once in the morning and once around 3pm.

Only baby can pull from all milk ducts

Pumping should never be a indication of how much your producing

I use to pump before I fed my daughter to help her latch better and she fed very well. Baby saliva and touch tells your body when they need more milk and your body will create based on that.

If he has peed diapers and poop diapers your doing perfect. Breast fed babies have a different schedule for poop and it’s looks totally different from formula fed. Keep up the good work. You got this 😊

@vegetapride, yes he’s pooping and peeing the same way as when I bottle feed so that’s good?

Pay attention to how your boob feels after he feeds. If it’s soft and flabby then that means he got enough. No need to pump. If he sleeps longer than 3 hours during the day then wake him up to feed. After a few weeks he will start letting you know when he needs to eat. And then your boobs will let you know because they will fill up and you’ll feel like you need to feed him. Don’t worry, I’m sure you’re doing great. Try not to stress. When in doubt, nurse. The saying goes “you can’t nurse too much, you can nurse too little.”

@2sweetie, one gets soft cuz it’s the one he latched on while the other one turns into rock cuz he doesn’t latch onto that one so I have to pump that one. It hurts though when he sucks I just don’t know if for sure he’s drinking enough

@blessedmommy-2, that’s normal and you don’t need to pump the hard one right away. When it’s time for him to feed from that side then you can pump a half ounce to soften the nipple or hand Express a little. Your supply needs to regulate and if you keep pumping then it’ll just keep filling back up. Don’t worry, it’ll even out eventually. You just have to put up with overfull boobs for a while. My son is 2.5 months and I still get really full, especially since he sleeps 7 hours at night.

@blessedmommy-2, I did too at first, but don’t worry it gets better. There’s a big growth spurt at 3 weeks and he’ll want to nurse more and be less sleepy. Just pump a little for Comfort, don’t completely empty it.

@blessedmommy-2, yes. My daughter would only like one side but I would still put her on the other to try but she wouldnt latch for that long. She would also sleep for four or five hours when she was just a couple of weeks old so I would pump when my breast were full. When babies are hungry they will show signs like curled up fist and crying. So I let her sleep however long she wanted and when she woke she fed and her little hands would relax and I knew she was satisfied. Then she would sleep some more. All babies are different and you just have to go with it and find what works for you both. The nurses would force me to wake her when she was first born but she just wanted to sleep and the doc said that was perfectly fine.
