Anyone delaying cord clamping AND donating the rest after the 3-4 minutes? Thoughts on this topic…

If you delay you would use it all for your child. Don't think they will do 50/50 all or nothing. But I strongly recommend delay 😊

With my last baby my doc actually delayed cord anything I felt like it was 10 mins before he clamped and hubby cut the cord

We did delayed cord non-severance so we don’t cut the cord until it’s physiologically shut itself down. So around 3-5 hours after birth.

@squishymommy1 that's what I thought. Plus there is blood in the placenta that would be included in the donation, the minimum donation is 50ml and I figured I should still be able to delay some and donate the rest. It is helpful to delay I know but you can also save a baby's life by donating and the chance that my baby giving some of what they don't necessarily need all to save another baby and make a mother be able to have her child is remarkable to me and I want to do that too.

I just wasn't sure how long I could delay or will the hospital do both? Is it common for people to do both?

@heilwife317, you’ll have to ask your Dr if they do placental stem cell retrieval. It’s a different process.

We wanted to donate but they said they didn't need donations at the time. My hospital's standard procedure is o so delayed clamping so we did that.

@squishymommy1 my hospital has it included in the same blood donation. Which I am fine with.
