have any of you not returned to work after maternity leave and had to pay money back to them?…

If you get paid maternity pay and don’t return to work you have to pay it back.x

@mummy2two, i’ve not been asked about amounts it’s just statutory maternity pay. it’s very confusing. i’m only on a 16 hour contract so it’ll be the bare minimum pay for me. i think i will need to ask about it 🤦🏻‍♀️ thank you

@nataja, i was reading online and apparently you have to pay some sort of money back if you’re on “contractual” maternity leave but my works policy mentions absolutely nothing and i haven’t been told that. i work with my other half and one of the managers told him that if you don’t return to work you have to pay it ALL back, i think she’s just trying to scare me into not leaving 🙄 i’m having twins and have no family where i live so chances of going back to work is so slim.

@nataja, I just know my works rules. If I don’t return to work I have to return any accrued holidays or bank holidays that I’ve used whilst being off and anything over and above smp. I wouldn’t need to return the 16 weeks of smp but I’d have to return everything else. Which is quite a lot because I get full pay for 6 weeks and half pay plus smp for 12 weeks then just smp for 4 weeks. But I only need to go back for 3 months to not have to return it. But everywhere is different.x

But yeah you shouldn’t return smp! If they’re asking for that you can say no as it’s against the law!

@nataja, yeah it was sorry 😊 I work in the public sector and yeah they’re much better than the private sector. My sister in law gets 26 weeks full pay 😳! That’s the best I’ve heard. #jealous 😂
