Why do we swaddle babies? What’s the purpose

Babies are born with a startle reflex, swaddling helps with that and makes them feel more secure. Both my kids needed it in order to sleep and be content but I’ve heard of quite a few babies that don’t like it.

@_sheriee jj hated being swaddled. Did it once in the hospital and he pitched a fit.

A lot of reasons, reduces sids, for soothing, for comfort, for baby temperature , for better sleep ...

So when do we do it?

It comforts them because they are used to being "swaddled" in the womb. It reminds them of it in other words.
