Baby boy has been in the nicu since this morning. I’m so devastated I want him by my side. I have to pump every two hours and take it to him. I hate seeing him in there ☹️
My bub was in the nicu for a week to have antibiotics and I pushed to breastfeed. They force fed him a few bottles, which i think affected my supply coming in properly and his latch. I exclusively breastfed for 6 weeks with a lot of trouble and eventually had to switch to mix feeds and now he's exclusively formula fed. Get a lactation consultant at the hospital to advocate for you and say you would like to exclusively breastfeed him. It's your choice and your baby. If they insist you can't, like @kambam suggested, do lots of skin to skin. Congrats on your baby too! He's gorgeous.
He was early? The breastmilk will help with that just get as much into him as possible. I will say though, don't trip about his weight if he loses more than you expected when he goes home. The IV fluid will definitely play a role in that. Just a heads up lol.
@kambam, thank you his glucose levels are just low. They put him on IV and stuff they said I can go home tomorrow or stay till Tuesday but usually takes a week for this to get stabilized
Well you definitely have a say!! Idk his situation but you can even request equipment be stationed in your room etc. Or if you're discharged just push for as much contact with him as possible. Any milk you're able to take him is GOLD.
@kambam, thank you I was just thinking about that. I want him to know him there but I didn’t know how. I feel like he feels so alone
@mamaofzuri, thank you ❤️ he truly is !
