Don’t know what to do. I’m in college. I took my 3rd math class during part 1 of summer. (Side note: summer classes are shorter than the rest of the semester. Fall & Spring are normally 3 1/2-4months long vs Summer where it’s only 6 weeks long) So I decided to take this math class right after I had my second born AND during the summer. I was doing pretty good at the beginning. Actually got a 96 on my first 2 tests and had an overall A. Then, my second born got sick and we were in the hospital for a week. It severely impacted my grades. Long story short, I passed the class with a C. I’m not happy with that. And I don’t think it would look good to the program I’m trying to get into. I’ve never gotten below a B in math. My question is, should I retake this class or just run with the C and move on? I busted my ass for this math class and never gave up. I don’t want to throw that all away but I know I can do better.

What are the conditions to get into the program you are looking at? Is it competative?

I would speak to the professor and explain your situation, how you had unexpected health problems with your child. Maybe she can let you retake a test or do an assignment that will impact your final grade. I did this years back when I was in college, several months had already passed and I was still upset over my final grade. I emailed my professor and he changed the grade even though the previous one was already posted on my transcript.

I can’t get below a C in any of my math classes. So I’m good, but I feel like it’s going to make me look mediocre or average. I’m extremely good at math and I want that to show. And no, it’s not very competitive.

@busybee818, I tried multiple times to talk to her about this. She never responded to my emails and when I talked to her in person she didn’t care. I had her for math in high school and she was the same way back then to. She’s one of those hard ass teachers. No excuses with her.

If the programs not competitive and you believe you will get into it with the C, I wouldn’t retake it.

@chelseaz, Yea, more than likely it’s not gonna be a make or break. I just know I can do better.

@emilymarie1357, I’m the same way! BUT given the circumstances and the reason why you got a C, I wouldn’t beat yourself up about it and I would just move on 😁 If you can still get into the program and be successful in what you’re trying to pursue, I wouldn’t waste time and/or money on retaking the class. You know you could have done better in it, so that’s all that matters! You don’t have to prove that to anyone else. Plus, I think passing the class period was a win for you considering you have kids and you were dealing with all your little ones health problems. I would give yourself a pat on the back. Sounds like a job well done to me! ☺️
