I took 6 weeks. But legally you are allowed 12 weeks. Some companies offer longer.

You legally won't qualify for the 12 weeks unpaid FMLA leave since you wouldn't have been there a year. You may qualify for some parental leave though which is generally 6 weeks unpaid depending on your state. It depends on the company policies too though. Some companies are really generous. What my old employer did if you hadn't been there a year yet was terminate your employment and hire you back whenever you're ready. I'd say 8 weeks is reasonable to request. I personally didn't feel like myself at all until 12 weeks postpartum though.

@kendrab, my job when I had my son told me whenever I’m ready to come back. But 6 weeks was enough for me. I was going crazy being at home all the time.

@kendrab, Yeah it's nearly impossible to find paid leave in the US unfortunately. Hopefully they work with you! I'm sure they will.

I would tell them that you are not sure yet. Just Incase because they get kinda iffy about it.

Well 6 weeks is the disability portion (doctor won’t release you back to work), that turns into 8 weeks if you had a c-section. Anything after is your prerogative. I went back when my baby was just 2 months old- that was 9 weeks postpartum, but I also took 1 week off before I had her. For me, this was not enough time and I hope to take off more this time around. Other people I know were itching to go back to work! This time I might try going back part time and transition to full time after a month, just to make it a bit easier.

@amysbabies im worried i won't want to go back after 2 months lol! I want as much time with my baby as i can get and my hubs said if i get the full time position hed rather me quit after the baby because we will never see eachother (hell be working mornings and ill be working afternoon/nights) which i cant complain because it will be horrible :/ lol hopefully they can work with me a little bit if not then i guess ill reapply or find another job when i am ready, even though i did have a really tough time finding a job before pregnancy so kind of dont want to let this one go..

@kendrab, most don’t want to go back, but we do what we have to do. Working an opposite schedule sucks, but at the same time does help with child care costs! That’s good you have the financial flexibility to simply quit if you want! I feel that working and being a mom is always a battle of time- never enough of it. Maybe take this job and look for one with hours you prefer?

@amysbabies yeah a little bit spoiled i am 😯 haha maybe this job will get my foot in the door up here! Im really excited to get out of the dang house though! And be able to buy things with my own money lol! I know everyone things its such a luxury to stay at home but after acouple months its like 😧 lol ill see if they can kind of work with me after the babies born if not i will end up looking for one that will but thats what scared me had so nuch trouble getting ny foot in the door so to have to have a schedule will only make it harder 😔 and i really dont want to keep being a stay st home mom, when it gets to holidays birthdays etc i feel useless ya know :/ i want to be able to buy my hubs things thats not with his money cause nothing feels worse than not getting your loved one anything.. boughten items arent everything but ya know..
