Ok but some bad ass kids won’t stfu screaming they lungs off while you out at dinner. They parents better give them that phone or tablet cause my ass is trying to enjoy my meal in peace 😂

@its.sarah I give JJ my phone. He dont stare at the screen or anything he just likes holding it and playing with it.. guess im starting him young. Maybe im a bad mom.

@mckallalynn.., I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. If a kid wanna look around and “experience life and see new things” etc they will on their own. But when ain’t shit around them to look at like at a restaurant that’s boring to them. They wanna play on a phone so what let them 🤷🏽‍♀️

There are other things for kids to do and play with that stimulate their brains and motor skills.

@idontwant2bapie, true. I don’t think just because you see a kid on the phone or a tablet when they are out that means that the child is on that thing 24/7.

@its.sarah, talk to them, tell them what’s going on in the store (this is ____, it does _____), bring toys, if older pen & paper to draw/ write... kids are overstimulated these days and that’s why they throw fits if they don’t have a screen in their face. It’s possible to teach your kids to be content without constant stimulation.

@segaciouslady, that’s nice. I hope that works out for you 🤗. I still don’t know how my child will be. She’s only one. I can’t tell if she’s gonna be overstimulated or not because she likes to watch despicable me 3 like all day if she can. It’s on a 65” screen tho. So is that better then on a phone or tablet ?

@idontwant2bapie, it is hard for kids to relax and be content with simple things if they never learn to do that (and are constantly stimulated all day as you said).

@mrs.r.32114, I do what my mom and hundreds of generations prior have done- deal with my child based on whatever’s going on, remind them of their manners, give them something to distract them (that isn’t a phone or tablet), or take them outside if it’s not working out. It’s much easier to do if you set your kids up for success early by setting clear boundaries and sticking to them so that your kids respect you (and if they’re toddlers and throwing a fit we calmly step outside until they gather themselves).

There was a time when we didn’t have screens to distract kids and they behaved just fine bc they knew if they didn’t behave in public they got disciplined when home to help them understand why that’s not ok to continue

@idontwant2bapie, girl yes! Yesterday I went grocery shopping and forgot the tablets. Worst shopping experience ever. And that was with them having a pen and paper. Took two hours instead of 45 mins.

@its.sarah, I have one kid (since I think more than 2 is ignorant 😏)- but was a full time nanny of 3 kids in college and spent many hours in public with them, so I do know what it’s like to have to manage lots of them at once.

I guess your kids are perfect and you have the patience to distract them at a restaurant. My kids have outdoor time and learning time everyday. If we are going to dine out and one starts acting crazy, I will try to calm him with talking or distraction. However if it gets the point of ruining mine or the other patrons meals I will give him my phone to watch educational stuff on YouTube. I don’t hit my children so threatening to “whoop their ass” when we get home will have zero effect.

You should like a very judgmental person. We all don’t have well mannered perfect snowflake children like you do.

@mrs.r.32114, stay calm and just do it? 2 year olds are way smarter than you might think- of course they can be very irrational at times but as a parent it’s our job to guide them.

But on a serious note. My younger two eat fast or very little at all. The baby is nonverbal and eats crayons. When he is done eat he will start yelling and throwing things. I give him a phone or tablet so everybody else can eat in peace. My 3 year old is good when she’s done eating but will ask to watch YouTube. I say yes. They have very limited screen time. They don’t get it at all at home. I don’t see anything wrong with it.

Idgaf what any .com has to say. I can make up bs too. What about the fact that my generation is the 1st with a spike in people not having kids at all. It’s popular today not to have kids at all. I don’t see anybody talking trash about that. If they can get respect why can’t I? If I can afford to have kids I will keep popping them out until I feel like I’m good and done. Very rude!

I will agree with u on the iPads or phones while out to eat. We go out to eat a lot with the kids and we never let them have iPads or phones. I won’t judge anyone for letting their kids use them but we don’t allow our kids to watch iPads or our phones at dinner time. That’s our one meal a day as a family and I like to talk with everyone then

The reason why this particular opinion is unpopular is because it is laced with ignorance and arrogance, and dripping with judgement. 1-3 year olds often do not sit still long enough to get thru a restaurant meal. It would have been better if you said they shouldn't be taken out of the house than say parents shouldn't use that type of technology to calm them.

I go to the store or restaurant or just out in general and I see little children using their clothes to clean the ground, crying, throwing tantrums, hitting parents for whatever reason. In my opinion, give them the tablet/phone so they don't have a melt down. It's not going to kill them. Children are not rational. You can't do everything your parents' parents or their did before you. Kids didn't use car seats, they didn't have disposable diapers, heck, they probably didn't even have electricity, def no internet apps to rile up the masses. So based on that, should we not use car seats and sit in the dark?

Like you said, kids are smarter than we give them credit for, we can't assume that they aren't experiencing life. Just because we see them for half hour one day on the phone, we can't absolutely conclude that they are missing out on life.

And having more than 2 children is not ignorant. Following that logic, 2 kids replace the 2 parents. What about people who can't have kids? Who will replace them when they die? What about people who do not want kids? Well, maybe you'd think they are ignorant too. What about people who die before they get the chance to have children? Who will replace them. Let's just go ask China how that 2 children rule worked for them. 2 kids per couple... no one will be around to take care or the elderly, the elderly will out number the young and strong.

I take care of my 2 year old and his older sisters (yes I have three kids) alllll day long every day because I’m a SAHM. If we go out to dinner and my 2 year old wants to watch some bulldozers scooping dirt into a dump truck for 20 min while we wait on our food to come and I can have an uninterrupted conversation with my husband, you’re damn right I’m going to hand the phone over. Shit, I’ll offer it to him before he even asks. So sit over there at the next table with your perfect kid and judge away, because IDGAF.

Having a child with SPD, if that phone will lessen his anxiety and get him for focus on something and calm down for a damn moment when something sent him into overload- I will whip that tablet/phone out in a heartbeat. 🤷🏼‍♀️ ohhh and his SPD wasn’t caused by vaccines, it was caused by being 17 weeks early- thank you science!

If we’re in a restaurant and my son starts to go ape, I’m guilty of letting him watch a show on my phone to calm him. But screen time is so limited at him. I actually interact with my kids lol and we spend tons of time outside doing things.
