How long does a divorce take and how expensive?

Varies from state to state and case to case. Some states want you to have been separated for a year before you can even file for divorce.

Depends on each side. My husband divorce from his 1st wife took 2 years and close to 5k

Google said 6 weeks-6 months but not sure how true it is .

My friend (in California) has already dropped thousands in legal fees and it’s been 11 months.

@momx3, I think my friends big issue is she’s from Arizona and wants to go back, but they have two kids together and he is from Sacramento.

I wanna move down south but I know he won’t let me so I wouldn’t fight it . I’m worried about custody of the girls and child support .

You can file the paperwork on your own, that’s the cheapest option. You can also hire a mediator, but that will be a waste of money if your husband is uncooperative. The more you can agree on the quicker and cheaper the process will go

Child support is calculated with a specific formula, there’s nothing to really argue about as far as that’s concerned

@momx3, I don’t think New York requires you to be separated prior to filing for divorce but I’m not positive. I’m sure you can find out easily enough by running some searches on google. You can even call an attorney on Monday morning and ask that question
