Mom preemie question... my son was born at 24 weeks on 1/26/18 and he’s taking four ounces every 3 hours. I did have him talking 4 every 5 but he gets hungry every three hours now. Should I feed him a little more? I’m trying to get him to sleep longer bc honestly I feel like walking death. He’s almost 5 month old. Although his due date was may 10th. New mommy. He’s the first preemie in my family so I’ve never dealt with this before. I don’t want to over do it. He screams like he’s starving to death though. Very distinctive hunger cry. Any helpful suggestions guys??

Since his adjusted age is 1 month old, it’s pretty normal for him to want to eat every 3 hours still. But you could try to go back to 4oz if you wanted.
He also could be just growing so that’s why he’s feeding more

You could always give him the 4 oz and then wait like 15 mins and then give him another 1-2 to see how he does with it. That way his tummy has time to process the first 4.

@db413, it takes him like 30-45 mins most of the time bc he falls asleep during his feedings when he wakes up hungry. When he’s already awake it only takes about 15-20 mins usually.

@destiny7685, seeing that physical age he is almost 5 months old. It’s natural that he’s going to want to eat more. But since he’s premie and his adjusted age is a little over a month you may want to ask your pediatrician if they think it’s a good idea to feed him more than 4 oz at a time. My son was born almost 3 weeks early and his pediatrician told me to feed him as much as he will eat as often as he’s hungry. How’s he doing with gaining weight?

@db413, he was born at 1.8 but lost fluid so was 1.7 and yesterday he weighed 8.6 not this Tuesday but last Tuesday he was 7.11 so he’s doing pretty good with weight.

@destiny7685, give your pediatrician a call and ask about it. I was told to feed him as much as he wanted as often as he wanted
