😑Husband told me he could get 6 weeks of parental leave due to a change in Nyc's law this year...turns out in his job (goverment job) they take all your vacation + sick days and also the rest has to be unpaid leave. Wth... no paid parental leave..bs

@alyssa5792, yeah but they did change the law this year in ny it just doesnt apply to his job. Private companies are required to have up to 8 weeks of paid parental leave and not take your vacation...anyway... 😑

Yep! The only way I got paid was using what vacation time I had (19 days) the rest unpaid.

Not sure what kind of government job he has but I have a federal job and we do not have maternity or parental leave. Have to use my annual and sick leave. If you don’t have enough you can borrow leave to be paid back.

@kelseyp16, yeah thats bs!! where i come from they give you 1 month for the father and up to 3 months for the mother all paid. and that doesn't include your vacation.. but i guess it doesn't work like that here

In general the USA doesn’t have any paid parental leave. Seriously if a person wants to have a kid here you have to plan way in advance for how you’re going to pay those bills
