My daughter was born on Friday and I’m having the hardest time trying to get my supply to come in. I feel like I’m starving her and I’ve had to supplement with formula a couple of times already. I bought mothers milk tea, I’ve been pumping after each feeding, I’ve taken hot showers and let the water hit my breasts, I’ve been drinking a ton of water... is there anything else I can do? I breastfed my first for a year and a half and never had this problem with my supply. Any tips will be greatly appreciated!!! Thank you!
My lactation consultant said the flow will come as baby demands. The more baby is put to breast in the first week, the more the message is sent to your body to produce milk and baby is big enough and ready. At first they do just fine with colostrum. The starving feelings is actually your baby's natural 'frenzy' she needs to go through to make your milk come in. There is usually no need to give formula at all as she is doing this instinctively. Hope it all works out for you momma!
I followed babies cues and had her on the breast every 1-2 hrs. My milk came in on the 4th day.
@saraann, I forgot to say add oatmeal to your diet lots of oatmeal like eat it twice a day for breakfast and before bed.. I ate so much oatmeal but I don’t mind it I loved it
@saraann, Breastfeeding is not easy I promise once you establish a good routine it will become easier. I have a couple tips for you try and good luck but I swear by drinking Gatorade or Powerade, drinking water, Fenugreek vitamins and adding Brewers yeast 1-2 tablespoons to your protein or smoothie shakes in the morning. You can also sprinkle Brewers yeast to your food before you eat it. And finally Nurse, Pump, Nurse, Pump and stay committed momma xoxoxo 😘
It Can take up to a week to get milk in sometimes . Just keep nursing and supplement with formula after you have nursed a full 15 min on each side. You can also pump a few minutes extra after a feed to get your body stimulated too.
