They’re keeping us in the hospital an extra day because she was born with low blood sugar and it keeps going normal then dropping & I’m breastfeeding almost every 30-40 min. I’m trying not to get discouraged but they said she may just have to be on formula 🙁
@ashleyp123 it takes a few checks....mine had to pass her levels for like 2 more days before we were released...she was born on the 15th and I remember leaving on the 19th. They just wanna make sure she can maintain
@newlywedmama21, @wafflespancakes, even with the formula her sugar didn’t go up now idk what we’re doing
@ashleyp123 good plan! Syringe feeding is what worked best for me, but I'm sure the lactation consultant can talk you through some options. Don't be discouraged, things don't always go according to plan.
@ashleyp123 keep hope alive mama....the nursing staff will supplement the breast milk if you tell them to do so...I'm telling ya, it's possible and common
@wafflespancakes, yes they have someone I’m about to call them now and see if I can set something up 😕
@newlywedmama21, I’m going to talk to them about that now and see if I can just pump, I really had my heart set on just breast but things happen
I'm sorry, mama. If they think she needs formula, ask about temporarily supplementing. You might not have to totally give up breastfeeding if you don't want to. I had to supplement with my first baby to help with jaundice but was able to continue breastfeeding. Do they have a lactation consultant on staff that you can talk to?
That happened with my last....I gave her the formula while in the hospital while still supplementing breast milk so she could pass her tests. So when we got released I just gave her the breast milk, sometimes it takes a while to get the good stuff...she been fine ever since. Didn't need formula again until I chose to stop breastfeeding. So don't be discouraged
@newlywedmama21, oh okay, I wasn’t sure. Thank you, I hope it doesn’t take that long 😩 I miss my babies
