Today in the town over from mine, a lady and her 3year old son we're attacked by a pit bull. Mother is in the trauma unit and her baby boy is in a separate hospital in the ICU. Boys face needs to be reconstructed and mom needs skin graphs and her skull is busted open. The pictures were awful and scary. Please, no matter what dog, be cautious. It's such a sad sight. My prayers go out to this mom and her son.

It is a terrible, sad thing when these incidents happen and yes it can happen with any breed. I was bit badly in the face by a golden retriever/chow mix when I was 9 (went on to own a very sweet dog of the same mix years later) and my brother is still scared of small dogs because while on a walk with our mom when he was about 4 a chihuahua charged out of yard and attacked his ankles. Always need to be cautious when out walking 😞 hoping for a quick recovery of both mom and son.

Exactly! All dogs need to be on leashes if they’re in public areas( that aren’t designated dog areas). I was attacked by a small dog. So it really irks me when people think they can just let them roam because they’re “friendly”. You just never know

@julyfirefly23 exactly. I'm sorry for your experiences, but it's also proof that it can be any breed. Little dogs scare me more than big dogs. ( Chihuahuas, Weiner dogs, ect.) I've been bit by multiple breeds like that. It's ridiculous.

@tinyhumansbitch @kacysowell I agree! Sadly this dog was in his back yard and the mother of the lady who owned the dog, opened the gate for the little boy to go in and give the dog a treat. But something just snapped and the dog full on attacked. He to be shot by police in order to get the dog off. He was a well known dog. Would always greet people at his fence and they would always give him treats. But what was different this time is that they went into his territory.

Oh my god the attack lasted until the police showed up. All if it is heartbreaking but that made me sick to my stomach thinking about that poor baby and mother

@bethann87 sadly yes. Bystanders we're unable to get the dog off. Police showed up in two min.

Pit bulls used to be known as the nanny dog before they were being bred for wars and fighting.
There are THOUSANDS of generations bred into animals that people never thing of. It takes one second for a dog who was bred for fighting one, two, eight hundred generations before him to lose it.
People need to understand the history of their breed before they get into buying a dog AND before blaming the dog himself. All thoroughbred horses can be traced back to one single horse.
It’s the same story with many other breeds other than pits of course but they’re STILL being bred as fighting dogs which makes it hard.
This is so terrible. I feel bad for the family, I feel terrible for the little boy, I feel bad for the dog, I feel bad for the owner of the dog who probably assumed their family pet would never and could never do something like this and now they’ll have to be without him.
