Labour & birth story.

I was booked in to be induced at 12:00 on the 15/06/19. We arrived at the ward & were taken straight to my bed to settle in & have some food. OH managed to watch the world cup on the bedside tv while we waited 😂. I was put on the CTG machine at 14:10 and left while they got a good trace. Little Olivia went mental doing some of the biggest movements we've ever seen!! Her rate went right up to 200 during this but once she calmed down & went to sleep we managed a good trace with an average of 140. I was examined to see if I could be taken straight to delivery to have my waters broken or whether is need the propess pessary to kick start things. I was 1cm dilated & while she could get a finger through my cervix it was still not enough to get the hook though so I had the pessary put in place. - it's kinda like a very small flat tampon. This was at 14:45. I had to lay on my left side & not move for 30 minutes following this. A side effect of the pessary is period pains & discomfort which I started feeling within an hour of having the pessary put in! OH popped off to get some food & I texted him to say these period pains were getting quite uncomfortable now. By 16:30 I noticed the pains were getting a lot more uncomfy but again put it down to the pessary. I wasn't in any great discomfort until about 17:30 so I finally told the midwife who smiled & said "that's what we like to hear. It means the pessary is working" then left. Another 20 minutes later & the cramps were getting more intense so she have me paracetamol, which was about as helpful as a chocolate tea pot 😂. She reassured my OH that it "definitely wasn't labour" and he decided to go home to sort some things out. He just got on the train when I texted him telling him to get back now. Id been to the loo had a massive clear out & a huge contraction hit me at the same time I felt a sudden drop. The midwife came back and kept talking about the pessary & I said no, I'm having contractions. She felt my tummy and said "oh. We'll that's good. Labour has started, you can have some more pain killers in an hour or so just keep doing what your doing. (I don't remember times now) OH jumped off the train at the first stop & thankfully there was another one going back to hospital in 4 minutes. While I waited I waddled to the loo for a wee & noticed I was bleeding. The midwife said "are you sure it's not your waters?" Before looking and telling me i was bleeding ( duh ) and getting me back on the CTG. My OH arrived just after this & found me in full labour! He put the world cup on the t.v. 😂😂 and was holding my hand. The only thing that helped the pain was pushing my feet against the base of the bed and squeezing the side of the bed with my hand. I had a sudden urge to push & the midwife came back in with the midwife taking over & when I told her she said "it'll be the pessary you won't be ready to push yet" lifted the blanket to take the pessary out & the other midwife said " yep baby's coming " and the room suddenly filled with midwives & I was told not to push because they had to get me to delivery. I had one puff on gas & air before it broke and I just carried on pushing 😂😂 made it into the delivery room & they wanted me to move on to another bed!! I said "I can't her head" then her head was out still in her waters which exploded all over the midwife ! Another push & she was out.
